Ok..I have been wondering for a while what the Capacity of my '06 is...SO I look it up....And it Says 4.8G?
It also Says there is a .9G reserve...SO that leaves me with 3.9G of fuel on the regular scale I believe.

Whaaaa.....?

The most I have Ever Put in it is 3.33G at fill up?

That's when the Last bar is Blinking and HAs been....
Where the hell is the rest of my gas volume/Capacity at at?

It really sucks having to fill up every hundred miles while everyone else is still good on fuel while being out on a ride?

4.8gallons is what the tank holds. With only ~.9gallons left in the tank, the low fuel light starts blinking. It could be less then .9gallons, it could be more.

Ride in higher gears if you don't want to fuel up so much. i just recently filled up my tank when it hit the reserve light and got 176 miles out of it.

Well, if you wanted to know what your range really is you could ride it to empty. I've heard others say that the low fuel light comes on to early. Try going by your odometer instead.

You really didn't pay attention when you read what I wrote did you?
You saw what you wanted and didn't get the COntext.
My point is that the tank says it holds 4.8G...Fine.

I have never put more than 3.3G in it at fill up...and that was after the light had been blinking for MILES...so my point was that the Gas Gauge must be WAY FRIGGIN' off on this bike if I still Have another gallon and a half left in the tank.
Sounds like my Reserve is blinking way too soon...about a Gallon too soon and I never knew it.

Well....I have figured that I get about 29-31 MPG out of the 3-3.3G I usually put in it...so in theory..I should be able to get about another 35+ miles out of the tank EASY after my light starts blinking.

I might Actually run it out to see if this is right..but I will do it close to home with someone on standby with a gas can.

And dont give me the crap about it being bad for the pump..I know that.

I understand where your frustration is coming from
From my own exp changing riding habits will bump your gas mileage i
went from 118 miles till the reserve light starts blinking to 140 miles
till the light starts blinking

You might ask how did i manage to accomplish that instead of riding in 2nd or 3rd
at 6500 to 7000 RPM i started riding in 4th and 5 th below 6000 RPM
this is during my 5.00 am commute to work on local city roads

Yes you can get around another 30 to 35 miles on the reserve gas if u stay in
high gear and below 5k RPM

YOu guys are still issing the point....The most I EVER ut in at FIll up is 3.3Gals...That it....and that is after running on the light for a bit.

My gauge must be way off if there4 is still about a Gallon and a half in the tank....Hell...I should still not have the light blinkg for about another half agallon according to all I have seen.

the only thing i could think is maybe put it on stands and run it like a dyno when the light comes on to see actually how many more miles or look in the tank.

My bike is the same. After the gauge starts blinking and I fill up immediately after, it's almost exactly 3.3 gallons. I don't see what you're getting all bent out of shape about?

Your tank is still 4.8 gallons. That means that you still have 1.5 gallons left in the tank. It just means that your gauge starts blinking a lil before it should. Better that than too late. Completely normal to me and just use your odometer to guesstimate how many miles you have left in your tank.

has anyone actually tried to get 4.8 gallons in their tank...
I remember years ago bike manufacturers were a little optimistic with their capacitys...
The most I have EVER gotten in my tank was 4.7 gallons....honestly. I ran out of gas down the road, and told my wife to bring me a 20oz soda bottle with gas to get me to the gas station.....

Don't worry about the fuel guage...the 05's and 06's were known to be off....go by the miles. My light starts blinking @ 100 miles but I ride til it says 180 all the time....and then I end up filling up for 4.1 gallons.

I am not Bent out of Shape..sorry if it seems I was..But I cannot Really Believe how fr off the Fuel Gauge is.

I mean...Its not a litlle off..ITs like 25% off...thats huge!

I know I get right at about 30MPG....I am gonna See if I can get 135 out of my next tank...I have never done more than 110.

That should be the equivalent of 4.5Gals. worth of fuel and enough to get me to a station....I will let you guys know when I try it..which may be a bit since my bike is torn down and Things are out for powdercoating.

Mine did the same as well. Now my 08 1000RR does the same. It would be good to know how far a tank will really get you though.

Edit: IMO it's probably intentional by Honda (just like the speedo error) since it is pretty inconvenient to run out of gas on a motorcycle.

The inaccuracy is only the byproduct of physics, not something Honda did because running out of gas is a hassle.
Explain further.....I've had an 03, 07 600RR and on 08 1000RR. When the light flashes I put ~3.3 gal in also..every time. It can't be coincidence that the physics of the situation results in the same end result when the stated reserve in 0.9gal.

Newtonian mechanics.

To make it as easy as possible, I'll draw up a picture in MSpaint and put it here in an edit. Give me 5 minutes or so.

Say in both columns, there is 2gallons of fuel.

Anxiously awaiting.....I just have a hard time believing that Honda can't get a fuel meter to read correctly. Bottom line is that if the light is flashing the intent is that there is 0.9 gal left and if there is more/less at this point and it's not intentional then there is something wrong.
