I have a 06 Kawasaki zzr600 . Rode it the other day it will go down in first gear easy but sticks . It will shift up but for example going from first to second when i go to second gear it stays up. I have to tap the shifter down a little with my foot then i can shift up gears and so on. And it does the same when i down gear. I changed oil and filter thinking that it just wasnt well lubricated but didnt fix the problem. Can anyone please help !!

Might be a bent shift fork. Before that, do everything you can thats cheap and easy. Clean and lubricate the pivot point on the shifter first.

Also check the bolt that is connecting the shifter to the bike. It could be too tight and making it not easy to move. Follow the recommended specs, hope this helps.

Try to find out whether it's resistance at the top (the shifter arm) or the bottom (by the side stand). That should isolate your problem.

Bottom should be a quick and easy fix. Top probably not so!

Also check to see clearance. Might be getting caught on fairings or something?
