So I was working on installing my new rear set and while putting the **** lever on, I noticed that the gearshift shaft was moving in and out, if you pushe toward the bike it would click in and if you pulled away from the bik it would click back out. Is this a problem, do I need to replace the shaft and the return spring and the gear selector cam?? I am worried!

this is the part im talking about... it goes in and out not just back and forth like it supposed to...

Think it's fairly normal - mine moves in/out by 2-3mm or so and it all works fine.

How much play do you have in it?
This happened while we where installing our woodcrafts and found out the hard way not to force the shifter elbow on. On the inside of the that are is a thin piece of metal that holds the shaft in place allowing the gears to change, if you bend that thin piece of metal to much the rod will move when you are leaning and can get stuck in the out or in position and cause you to have a false neutral the next time you shift. If you experience any false neutrals this would be your problem. You have to remove the right cover and clutch basket to access this piece. T

crap I think I did that, damn it I just changed the oil and put 30$ of repsol oil in there....well can you give me a name of the piece that I am going to need to order to replace....I am pissed about all of this, not to mention I could not get my seat cowl on with out feeling like I was going to break it. and I took off my frame sliders to make it easier to test fit my mid fairings and I can find my right side engine mount bolt...so if anyone has one to spare...that would be great..I will pay of shipping.

Number 1 is the part you need. We ended up making our own out of thicker metal so we wouldn't have to deal with it again.

Here is the seat fix:
Shave the part in the black to make the hook more pointed at the end and the seat will go on easier.

or should I just buy the whole gear shift shaft assembly?

also I didnt mean the rear seat cowl. I meant the whole seat fairing..sorry. It just feels like I can bend it around the tray with out cracking it or breaking it. Is there a trick to it, or can I trim some of the under tray down to give some more room to play with?

The tail will bend putt it back on over the subframe. It will be fine. Yes, that's the correct part, sorry about that. T
