Saw this during my morning routine:

Whatever your outlook on electric drives is, the fact still remains that that's the direction we're headed. Curious to see what vehicles come out of the engineers' noggins in the coming future.

What makes me wonder, though, is if it would still be legal to own and drive vehicles with ICEs or is it just a ban on manufacturing?

i would suspect a ban on manufacturing.

it will take a lot more than 13 years to completely replace every car/truck/van/bus

i really like the idea of an electric vehicle. especially when it comes to performance cars.

however, they have to prove that for the entire life cycle of the vehicle that it is actually more environmentally friendly. that part i'm not too sure about.

Germany already pushed hard for renewable energy and all they got from it was more dependence on coal fired power plants and lack of viability once the government subsidies came off.

Yeah, there's still the question to the source of electricity and the way things sit now, it's not really much better than relying on ICE. But that's a whole another debate.

For the ban though, it'd be a sh!t show but imagine if the ban was comprehensive and manufacturers are "recommended" to pump out small electric cookie cutter cars just to feed the masses. Not unlike what happened with the original bug.

Edit: This also completely ignores the manufacturing of batteries.

So no more real BMW's, MB's, Audi's, Porsche's etc? All electrics would kill those companys, Porsche most of all.
