Saturday I went to fire up my bike for the first time in about a week and a half (has been raining and cold) -- and it didnt want to start. I hit the button, it fired once, and then just cranked. I let it sit for a minute and tried it again, and it acted as if it was flooded, cranked for a while and slowly kicked over and started. There was some blue smoke and a raw fuel smell for a minute once it started.

I took it down the road after it started and got on it -- it has been fine since, running and starting good. Should I be concerned or is this something like moisture in the fuel from sitting for a week in the crap weather?

no, just a flooded motor. you hold the throttle wide open for a few seconds to dry out the cylinders, then start it as normal. s' got nothing to do with moisture. the plugs will fix themselves.

flooded motors happen for some odd reason no one has figured out quite yet. but it happens, and the fix is listed in your owners manual.

Had the same on my 07 - if it is a pain the first time & doesn't start, just follow the engine flooded procedure in your owners manual.

Yeah, it started after I held the throttle open for a minute. Didnt think FI could flood.

Its been fine since. Thanks for the help!

My suspicion is that fuel can leak from the injector's into the the head & cause the fuel / air ratio to be too high to then start. After it happened in mine, I put some injector cleaner into the tank & haven't had it happen again. Injector cleaner doesn't hurt once in a while anyway.

that's very true, and doesn't cost much either. if it fixes it, then it was worth doing.
