So I just bought this 06 600rr. It's been great until this morning. When at idle or below 35mph, it starts heating up. This afternoon it got to 270 degrees while on the freeway because i was only going 25mph. I had to pull over and shut it off and let it cool. Once I get above 40mph, it will ride perfect between 180-185 degrees. The lady I got the bike from has the maintenance records. A complete tune-up and valve adjustment and everything was done 10k miles ago. This is my first bike, so this is all new to me. Where should I start looking?

Is the fan kicking on when going slow?

Was it extremely hot out today?
i dont know. i cant hear it. at first it wasnt coming on. i wiggled some wires around under the seat and it started working again but its still heating up if im below 4-mph. i let it cool down and then i just started it up and let it idle. it got up to 250 degrees and i shut it off. i turned the ignition back on, the fans came on and it started cooling down again

Check the coolant level, and if the fan is being inconsistent, then you have to check the connections. It is supposed to come on at 103/104 Celsius (220F) everytime, and when it does the temperature is supposed to start dropping.

So I got to work. I let it cool down to 150°. I started it up and let it idle. Fans come on at 212° like it's suppose to, but it still heats up. I shut it off at 250°. I'ma have to take the fairings off and check the coolant. That's all I can think of at this point. Running around at freeway speeds, it stays cool. Street driving or idle, it heats up. This just started yesterday morning when I got to work. It hasn't been hot at all. 55-65°

Sounds like your coolant is low.. When you take the fairing off look at your coolant bottle... If it's empty your coolant is low... My bike did the same thing when the coolant was low after flushing the radiator
