Hey everybody,

So a few weeks ago I low sided my bike. It landed angled down into a ditch so it was sort of upside down. I had her towed home and didnt try to start her till a couple of days later. The bike was flooded. Once I cleared the flooded engine she started smoking very bad. It doesn't really smoke at idle but when you start giving it gas it gets pretty bad. I have not ridden the bike, just turned it on in the garage. Any ideas of what during the crash cuased this and what I should look at to remedy this? I have already changed out all the plugs and the oil.

let me get the story straight...so u crashed into a ditch..then u left the bike there and the ditch took on water which flooded ur bike...or is it...the bike was in the ditch upside down which caused the engine to get flooded with gasoline..if it took on water while upside down then u have a possibility of the water having saturated the intake tract and even worse made it into the engine..first things first..which flood is it

Sorry, I may not be the best story teller. The ditch was empty and it was on the edge slanted at a downward angle. It was flooded with gas, I got the bike out and up about 5 min after the crash. The smoke is kinda of white/grayish, not black or blueish I could take a pic of it. There was another person in the stunter forum who posted a pic of his bike smoking like crazy out the pipe after high siding. It looks exactly like that.

If it's whiteish, it's just water vapor burning off. Nothing to worry about.

if its not blueish then its not oil burn off..i would assume it is residual gas burning off from somewhere inside ur exhaust...not sure though...i had a friend low side in someones yard..it was an 01 R6 and when we set it up it didnt start right away..when it finally fired up it smoked for a bit then after riding for a while it stopped smoking..maybe someone else might have a different solution..but i think u should be able to have it run and the smoke should subside...

I agree with the assessment above keep it running the smoke will
eventually clear up

Always does.
My bike always puffs out white smoke every time it's on it's side, which is quite often. Every time I work on a new slider, I put it on the bike and just kick it over.

if upside down you could have had:
oil go past your rings into the head / exhaust.
petrol seep into the oil - have you checked / replaced the oil.

That'd put off a blue smoke though, so I don't think he has to worry about gas in the oil or anything.

I changed the oil and the plugs. I will keep her running for awhile, but she she doesnt smoke unless i gun it and keep it revved. I should have her put back together in a few more days so I will try and ride it out. Thank you for all the help and suggestions everyone.

I'd still say to open up the airbox and check it for oil which could have gone in there via the engine breather when the bike was on it's side.

After a short ride at about 20-25

So I opened the airbox on Troys sugestions, there was oil in there. In the chamber on the filter cover there was some oil, I think there is a tiny bit in the filter but it looks dry so I cannot tell. I am going to change the filter, I wiped out the air box and used canned air to blow out any objects so we will see what happens, off to the honda dealer.

that smoke is blue as blue can be. a lot of the 636 stunt bikes had this prob. its just oil inthe airbox. wipe it clean and clean the airfilter and you will be ready to ride
