Background: bought '05 CBR600RR used a couple days ago. The bike was sitting in a garage for a few months without ever being ridden. The bike has apparently been knocked over a couple times. When I fired it up to take it home it ran perfectly fine, but apparently when I when to fill it up (from half to full) it started to smoke out the exhaust a bit on the way home.

Problem: next day I tried to fire it up, I had to hold the ignition button a couple seconds longer, and when it did start up it would be ok for a couple seconds then the revs would slowly drop and a few seconds later just shut off completely.
I thought maybe it was bad oil and fuel since it's been sitting around, so I changed the oil, oil filter, added more fuel (since I used about half the tank), added fuel line cleaner, and even charged the battery.
Problem persisted. I tried holding the throttle open a bit to see if I could keep it going; it worked for a bit but when I let go the idle just drops and dies again, not to mention it smokes out the exhaust like crazy.

I know this is long but please help me!

Whitish grey, more white I guess. I was going to adjust the idle speed and increase it a bit tomorrow.

Something to new add: (happened before as well) I'll try a few times to start it up and it goes through the same song and dance as mentioned before, but after a few tries it just wont' even turn over anymore.
This old ball and chain is giving me a rough time!

If the bike has been tipped over several times it could have left over oil that has been spilled. Adjust the idle to 1,400-1,300 RPM's and let it run. Shut it off if you have any lights( FI light or the Oil light).

Thanks for the advice but the problem is it won't stay on long enough to run. I've tried increasing the idle speed but it's hard to tell how high it's at since I can't keep the bike running

Have you tried to hold the rpms at a certain point for like 5 seconds? then try and see if it shuts off.
