Good morning fellas!

Maybe you can help me out with this since I'm a little outdated.

I'm looking for a system to play music at home, I used to listen directly from the computer (where I keep all my music) but I've been thinking on something that could broadcast from the computer to a sound system.

What would you reccomend for such thing?

I used to download all my music (yeah, I know what you're gonna say) I'm not doing this anymore and that creates a problem for me... I don't know how "legal" digital music works or which is the best platform (Itunes, Spotify, etc...).

Do you buy full records, loose tracks... ???

As you can see I'm kinda lost... My TVs can reproduce stuff over the network but the speakers on the TV are sh+t... And the interface is slow and laggy... Even though I install a sound system for the TV I will still have that crappy interface...

Enlighten me people!

Thanks in advance!

I work in radio and one of our VP's of programming is an old school kind of guy and wanted a system for his new office that could play from his laptop so I dug around a bit and found an Onkyo receiver in the $500 range that has Apple AirPlay, Wifi, Bluetooth and Internet radio built into it. Very basic stereo receiver (no surround sound) but it and the Klipsh bookshelf speakers I bought for him sound great and work a treat as well. Anything you can play something on or from works on it, pretty cool setup.

I'd search for that type of unit, I imagine they'll become more common as time goes on and the pricing will drop.

Yeah I know those Onkyo... Basic in features but with clean powerfull sound.... I actually burnt one of those many years ago... Still crying for that one...

So I see you would suggest buying a receiver with Wifi/ BT / AppleAir ...

What about sourcing the music?

What would you suggest?

Also it would be interesting if I can plug my TV too to get some good movie sounds out of the new receiver.

My wife loves Spotify, I generally listen to Sirius or buy stuff from iTunes (yeah, I'm a moron that pays for things I'm supposed to like audio and service manuals). Basically if you go in the direction I mentioned, it doesn't matter what you are playing from or where the source material is from as long as your phone, PC, notebook or Bluetooth TV has the audio playing. Even podcasts, YouTube, whatever can be played on the receiver. You also have regular RCA inputs for whatever as well.

It's a cool thing, my next receiver will have bluetooth and wifi.

I agree with the X here. If your only desire is fantastic 2 channel stereo sound and don't need surround, go old school. These new audio systems are rubbish. The focus more on things like bluetooth and wifi and airplay etc instead of giving you good audio reproduction.

Hahahaha... I just send Kanye's C.V. to a friend of mine who own a KFC... I'm sure he can help him... or nobody can...

Gonna give it a go... I have to catch up with all this streming audio thing...

Want great sound? Me too, so I do it with old Marantz.
I know all those old-school amps are hundred times better, but they cost a kidney, don't have wifi/bluetooth and they are too much for my little living room...

I used to have one of this back then... Sansui

My neighbours loved it! Hahahahaha
