The House of Representatives has approved CISPA with a vote count of 248-168. Initially slated to vote on the bill Friday, it decided to pass it Thursday after approving a number of amendments.

The snap vote took place after Congressional legislators approved a number of amendments to CISPA. Apart from cyber and national security purposes, the bill would now allow the government to use private information obtained through CISPA for the investigation and prosecution of “cybersecurity crime,” protection of individuals and the protection of children. The new clauses define “cybersecurity crime” as any crime involving network disruption or hacking.

The bill is now headed for the Senate. President Barack Obama will be able to sign or cancel it pending Senate approval.

What's funny is if you tell most people about current day problems which may affect their civil liberties, privacy, etc, in the near future, most will respond "It doesn't affect me, I don't have anything to hide."

When SOPA went around, everyone thought they were changing the world by linking to google's SOPA page and asking people to sign online petitions. Then CISPA came and no one cared.

But let's be honest, complacency is the name of the game here.

Food for thought:

And the cherry on top:

You make it seem like the people have a chance... They don't, the deck is stacked against them. Congress already has the lowest approval rating in its history yet it still does this sh*t. Congress is bought and paid for, the people calling the shots are not the people, it's corporations.

That's not going to change until the real problem is addressed. The biggest problem is money in politics, so long as it takes millions/billions to be elected into office this kind of crap will continue... And Americans will be worse off because of it.

Maddox says it better than I can: http://thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=pass_sopa

LOL, you go on calling others idiots but advocate voting for republicans, as if they are less culpable in all this... While in reality they are the ones who are largely responsible for this shift towards fascism. The truth is, that both democrats AND republicans are to blame. Politics isn't a football game, rooting for your team doesn't get you d*ck all when both teams are trying to f^ck you/the country over.
