Holy rusted D rings.. I would order new padding, so it forms to your head properly. If you don't want to do that, take the pads out and throw them in the washer and put them back in the helmet.

Hey guys! One of my friends gave me one of his helmets that has been sitting out in an old shed for a couple years... I really like the look of this helmet and I'm wanting to clean it up so it can be worn. Its got a heavy musty odor on the inside and the padding is just disgusting. I was wondering if there is any possible way that I could eliminate that smell and get this helmet in wearable condition. Any product suggestions or cleaning tips are much appreciated.

Yeah, you can get new inside padding or just pop them out and wash them. But the D rings should be cleaned....lol.
dude, that helmet is most likely shot, garbage, paperweight, junk, game over.
the part that actually does the work to save your skull is probably deteriorated.
if i were you, id give youself some piece of mine.
buy my ARAI and know that you have something worth putting on your head.
its even under warranty still, the link is in my sig.

Yeah you're right. Once a helmet is dropped its shot. There is no telling what this helmet has been through. I'm not using this lid as my personal helmet, Just something a passenger could use. With my helmets that I have dropped, I cut the straps off and hang them on my garage wall as souvenirs....:drunk:
I would get a new cheaper helmet for my passenger rather than spend time and money to restore that helmet.
Actually, the EPS does not usually get disrupted in a fall if there is no counterweight (i.e. your head) inside the helmet - this is direct info from Arai. If it was spiked like a football I would be wary though.Once a helmet is dropped its shot.
But yeah, this helmet is now for display only. No way I'd let someone use that.

watch the video, its great info on properly sizing your helmet, which actualy promted me to sell my arai rx-7 medium, to get a small.

the short answer is NO, since your head was not inside the helmet to react with the core, the core is not damaged or compramised. now a drop from an over pass on a freeway, idk, mb itd be done for haha.
