after being on this website for quite some time now, i am very aware of those of you who are totally against fixing a flat. i completly understand your point of view. on the other hand, i have done this several times and have had not one single problem with plug'n it up. from personal experience the plugs work GREAT!!!! for those of you who are totally against fixing a flat.... please SKIP THIS THREAD. i am postly mainly for those interested in knowing how to plug. i have had the experience of having less than 1k on a tire and i pick up a nail. in this case it was a lot more than 1k.... but i still decided to patch her up. i braught my camera along with me......

TIRE PLUG KIT
1.purchased this at AUTOZONE for about less than $10

due to i do not have a compressor... i drove to the gas station. here is the nail i picked up. IN THE TIRE.

2.Take the nail out ..... make sure you let most of the air out. I used the nail itself to push the needle in to let preassure out faster.

3. The tool kit came with a tool that looks like a needle file. Insert rasp tool into hole and slide up and down to roughen and clean inside of hole.

when you insert the tool... make sure you file in the same angle the nail was in the tire.

150mph (closed course) and over 300 miles on a plug this weekend (two plugs actually, it was a 1/8" staple)
i feel your pain. i went through 4 rears last summer. i'm on my second rear already this summer, and it's bout half done now. and for some reason ALL of them have gotten holes in them with only a few couple hundred miles on them. i've had plug/patches in my rear tires for most of their lives. not 1 has ever failed me, and i beat on this thing regularly.
I have the same plug on my tire. unfortunately i'm still learning to ride the bike. i'm still working on gettin good enough to get out on the highway and take my bike to get the tire changed. so far the plug is holding up well and i hope it holds up on my way to get the tire changed.
Please explain how the tire plug failing midcorner caused the crash. That has to be one seriously long turn for the plug to fall out and the tire to lose enough air to make him crash.

not trying to bash but thats stupid to say.... thats like saying if you cant afford a new tire or a tank full of gas you shouldntt drive a car or if you cant afford a water bill you shouldnt live on your own. come on now im sure there has been a time where you didnt have $$ to fork out for somthing

well put it in a different perspective think of it like safety equipment like a jacket and gloves..... or do you ride in a tee shirt and flip flops?

and you could buy a decent set of takeoffs with no holes for under 100.....gee is that risk really worth it?

I mean if your poor thats cool but if you have a bike and all the protective gear and enough money to run track days dont cut corners on tires unless you would chance balling up your bike and looking at serious doctors bills instead of buying a new tire
Guys, he specifically stated it if you don't agree, skip it.

I patched a tire from the inside and it was perfect for the rest of it's life. I have not plugged, however.
I got a nail in a tire last year it only had had 800 miles on it, i bought a new one then ,and i just recently got a nail in another tire and now i'm waiting on a new pair of qualifiers. its just not worth the risk to plug a tire .your life is worth more than a couple $100 bux. play it safe get anew tire man.

yeah your a dumbass too think of it like this lets spend 5 bucks on a plug rather than 80 on a tire..... then the plug fails your on your head and bike is trashed 1000 in medical bills and 1000 to fix your bike. but you would rather chance it fine.... you might get lucky for a while but why risk it

If you think it is totally safe you are niave as the original poster.... i dont care if he said just skip it either I would rather someone know the risks rather to think it is "ok" to plug it......
