hey all...

It looks like I'll be moving next may once school is over, and I've been presented with a great opportunity... just not sure what to do with it.

I've been riding a 2004 GSX-R600 for the past year, and I've got to tell you... I really am in love with it. I've done about everything I could ever want to it (includuing a F/S Arata!)

Now, my wife is very respectful of my motorcycling habit, but is trying to convince me to sell the bike to make moving easier. I've got to say that it does make sense, because we are going to be short on room the way it is. However, she said that I can buy a brand new bike when we get where we're going. Unforunately, I feel as though Honda dropped the ball on the '07, which stinks because I was really leaning in that direction. Now... I'm starting to consider moving to a 1000cc twin such as an Aprilia or RC-51. I've not had the chance to ride a twin yet, but I've definately always had the dream in the back of my mind.

So there is my dilemma, I know most people here are going to flame the suzuki, but it truly is a nice bike (my last 3 bikes have been Honda.) Also, I have this bike set up exactly how I would want, I can't realistically add anything more to it. I think I basically need some reviews on the twins before I can make up my mind.

Anyways, interesting opportunity...

suzuki are cheap and easy to get, theyre everywhere, so if all else failes, you can get a 06... There are plenty of choices man, and your already on the darkside so what the hell...
Whatever youve got done to the old 04, i think you can make the 06, or 07 do better. and you can change things or do em a little differently. Very rarely does the oppourtunity to start from scratch present itself, i dunno, id take it, hell that R6 has enough aftermarket parts out now to make it look damn good, and you can still wait till u see the Honda in person.

Sounds like your wife is very kindly trying to kill your riding... U couldn't pry my throttle from my cold dead fingers.

1000cc twins are brutes. both bikes are heavy as hell, but they have the torque and power to compensate. it's not going to be nearly as flickable as the GSXR so steering input will be sluggish. fuel milage is ok though. the one i'm famillar with gets about 40-45 on the highway.

honestly, i wouldn't do it. if you want a 1000, get the 1KRR or the R1.

If you like your bike and are not really in the market unless you have to get rid of it for the move. then just keep it, Im sure you can take it with you, if its as set up as you say it is then you will kick yourself later for having to start from scratch on a new bike.

I wouldn't change until you've ridden a few of the V-twins, and remember they're horrible to work on.
Give me an inline four over a V anyday- that is if you work on them.
How much do you like your current bike? sounds like your not over it. After all you've customised it, and its got what you selected for this bike on it.
It won't be worth as much for someone else as it is to you!
and ... how far is the trip? Are you prepared to part with it for the sake of the wife, sure she says you can buy a new one when you get there - BUT is this a cheap shot at getting rid of your riding all together??? After all she is trying to get you to sell this one and may very well convince you in no certain terms NOT to buy another down the track. I'd only sell mine if I wanted to, and not for the sake of the missus- I should know I'm married 34years old, have a son who is less than a year old and she always worries about me taking the bike out for a ride.. even then I don't think I can part from my riding days. Food for thought!

How much $$ have you put in it with mods? If it's a substantial amount, I'd take er' with ya on the move. You're not going to get a lot of that money back when you sell the GSX-R before you move.

PM me with any questions you have about RC51s.
If you really love your GSXR, then why change. But if you know there is something else out there you'd really like to have, then convince your wife. If you end up going for an RC51 then you'll have a great bike with a huge aftermarket. The RC really needs quite a few mods before it becomes a really great performing bike. It may be heavy on paper, but it sure doesn't feel like it. Here's some wet weights taken from sport rider's website
05 Ducati 999 _________478
00 Aprilia Mille _________490
03 Suzuki SV1000s _____485
00 Suzuki Tl1000R ______510
05 Suzuki Hayabusa ____563
06 MV Augusta F41000S 489
06 Honda CBR1000RR ___451

why not just ship it to your house...you can ship a bike cross country for like 500 bones.......you'd lose more than that if you sold and then bought new.
Thank You I was wonder when someone was going to say this...Just ship to your next home...Done deal..No room taken up. It will be there when you get there.

LOL,

it's funny how many of you are worried about wives... This is the 5th bike I've owned, I highly doubt she'll be changing her mind the next time around. As stated, this was mostly her idea anyhow, just trying to look at it as an opportunity.

I'll definitely have to do more research into a few different bikes I've been considering over the years, but if I decide to stick with a 600, I'll probably just keep mine. For the money it would cost me to make an '07 comparable, I would have much more invested than I do into the gixxer.

Thanks so far for the input... I'll let you know what I decide in the future.
