First off, I wrecked my bike. So I have LOTS of problems to deal with. But I was hoping you guys could help me figure this first problem out to get me one step closer to it operating again. Just to get a general understanding, its mainly front end damage. Lights, intake, BAS, gauge cluster... pretty much everything forward of the key is missing or broken.

METER ILLUM TAIL fuse keeps blowing. But its kind of confusing. Earlier today I was trying to install a new gauge cluster. Before I hooked it up, I'd turn the key, and the tail light would light up just fine. Then I hooked up the cluster, and POP! fuse blows. Replace fuse, POP again. Every LED on the cluster is dead EXCEPT the neutral blue light. I wont even mention that the bike wont start, or that the fuel pump doesnt turn on either, because Im sure those are other problems related to the BAS or other mechanical failure.

But why do you guys think this is popping? Im blanking on the name, but could it just be cluster connection piece causing the short?

I've got a long road ahead of me to get this baby working again, but every solved problem gets me that much closer. Thanks guys

there is only one reason a fuse would pop

a dead short

you have a bare wire some where

and blue light is highbeam, neutral is green ?

You have more than likely crushed your front wiring harness, get rid of the old one and see how you go... either that or your new cluster is stuffed...

Tenjin, you're correct. Blue is highbeam, which now makes more sense why it was the only illuminated LED because the headlights sit on a separate fuse, so they must be connected Im guessing... My guess is the cluster is bad. Let me rephrase that, I PRAY the cluster is the only thing bad, cuz I really dont want to check every wire throughout this contraption!

Thanks guys. Oh, and Nico, I hate to derail my own thread with a completely separate topic, but I used your sprocket chart, and compared it to 12oclocklabs calculator, and it was off by over 2%. Did I do something wrong? I went with your chart afterall, but I'd like to know if I should change it. '07 with -1/+3

I had made an error in that chart,:banghead: have another look now cause I have fixed it, but the description is still wrong and the zip file needs updating.

You should be looking at a 12.5% error, is that what 12oclocklabs had?

Yep, no argument here...

for the OP, what we are saying is that if your gauges are unplugged and its blowing its your harness, if its blowing with the gauges plugged in it could be your harness but a little more likely to be the gauges.
