I just recently changed out my regulator because old one would only push out about 8 volts. I would let bike sit for a couple days and then try and start bike but bike would just die. Battery is new.

So my questions are....

What does a regulator do?

Can it take away from engine power? (like hp or torque bc it can't push out enough electricity to get engine going) ( stupid question yes but im just eliminating ****)

How do you know if it's bad?

Can your bike run with out it?

Your stator generator produces ac voltage/current. The regulator rectifier turns it to dc voltage/current. I would say you stator is bad.

We will see if it happens again bc I just finished putting new regulator on. If it does then for sure it is stator.

it prevents your electronics from getting 100% of the juice from your generator / alternator. without the R/R, revving your engine high can cause your electronics to fry. to test it, you can put a multimeter to it and measure its output when it's idling vs at a certain rpm. what do you get?
