Ok I tried to accomplish this taskwithout having to post but I couldn't find this answer so here I am. So I lost my only key to my bike and found a locksmith that can cut me a new one using my key codes. My question is how many numerics is the key code? I took my ignition out and took the plate off and found a number that is 6 characters long, # letter letter letter # #, is this the correct number? The ignition doesn't seem to break down any further so I hope this is correct. Also on the side it has three other characters, is this random or are they part of it? I attached a picture to show where I found the number. And if it helps it's a 2004 cbr600rr, thanks in advance for any help.

Your key code will be 8 digits, all numbers. Take your ignition and something proving you own the bike to a Honda dealership and have them run that number to get your key code, or order you keys. Your key code has only been stamped on a little silver tag that came attached to your keys when the bike was brand new. Nothing on the bike will give you the code.

Well that discouraging because I talked to the dealer and they told me that they don't cut keys and they directed me to a locksmith and this is what he told me to do and that he handles all the keys for the dealer. Ok thanks I guess I'll have to call the dealer tommorow.

Dealerships wont cut keys, unless they're certified to, but they can order keys from Honda. They are the only ones that will be able to get your key code for you.

I don't mean to thread jack, but no one is responding

A question on the dealerships and key codes, my dealership said there is no database for key codes...were they just bullshitting or whats up? OR would it have to be the dealership you got the bike from?

I tried taking my ignition off too, but i ended up stripping one of the t40 screws underneath the ignition so now its just getting harder to get my bike back on the road.

A certified Honda dealership can see where you bought the bike, call them up and get the information or even get it from Honda's online database with all customer information. Either they're not a true Honda dealership, or they're too damn lazy.

The good old days a customer would come in to the shop needing a key and read the 4 digit code right off of the top of the ignition and we would look in a parts bin and hand him the key. Wonder how many of those guys didn't really own the bike??? And I say guys as back in the 80's I think we had 2 female street customers and 1 female dirt customer.
