Kimchi Rider's Fuel Tank rust removal

This is why I try to keep my tank FULL. I've already been down this road and it's not fun. I'm curious to see how yours comes out with using citric acid and the sealer because I need to redo mine at some point. Post up a good "How To" and I'll separate this out to a new thread. This is a common problem.

No worries Kimchi. Your corrosion is much worse than mine was and your method of using citric acid did a much better job then using vinegar. DO NOT use vinegar. I went through the same method of filling the tank and letting it set for a day or so. Only to find out that the vinegar had dissolved the tanks fill cap locking mechanism, the fuel cap had popped open, and rain water had got inside the tank. What a mess! I had to replace my fuel cap with a race cap and I was never able to get the remaining rust out. Every time I tried to get the last bit of rust using the vinegar the surface rust formed as soon as I was finished and it dried. I finally gave up.
