yesterday a bill passed the california assembly to ban lane splitting and the use of motorcycles in the HOV lane...many motorcycle organizations including the ama were caught with their pants down as the bill went through the voting with no opposition...how could the lawmakers sneak this law through?....

Hahahaha, too bad that's way too believable to be funny; when the vote to make pot illegal took place, they called it marijuana...but no one called it marijuana before 1937.

No it's actually legal in California, although that actual law is a bit vague and it really comes down to the cop and if he wants to stop you or not.

For the most part cops here in Cali are pretty lenient with riders that lane split. Just don't swerve in and out of lanes and make yourself a target.

I've never been clear on this here either. It wasn't legal but it wasn't illegal either, however if anything happened you'd be automatically at fault as you would be the one invading someone's lane.

Recently it was announced that lane sharing is officially legal from standstill and moving traffic up to 30kph. Above 30kph I'm still not sure, assume status quoe remains.
