Anyone else working on getting in?

I'm finished with all backgrounds and medical checks and am just waiting on the go-ahead or the 'thanks but no thanks' letter which i dont see coming since they passed me on everything and spent all this money.

Anyone else in SoCal working on getting into the LASD?

I know that if you are a minority it works in your favor. I've been there done that...would rather work for a smaller city owned station like Palos Verdes Police or Torrance Police.

LA Sheriffs Department like most enforcement departments are hurting for people so if you have a clean record both in tickets and arrests you should fly through

Being that you have military exp that’s a definite plus and I’m sure you would be a great candidate for any department. I’d check into the smaller city owned police station if you don’t want to work in the jail system for a couple years. The reason I decided on LASD instead of a smaller straight to the street police station is because I’d like to know who and what is out there waiting for me. I figure I can see who is in jail, how they act, and who the main offenders are. Should help me that much more when I am out on the beat to spot poss suspects.

Another thing is LASD covers all of LA County instead of applying just for say Long Beach PD and having only a few miles patrol area with nowhere to move up. Sheriff department there’s always somewhere else to go and somewhere to move up to

Pretty much don’t lie on the poly, tell your drug hist from the get go and don’t change you story- make photo copies of all your paperwork you turn in so you can review it later for interviews to come.

Aside from that it’s not that hard. Pay is great, benefits, and retirement- what else can you ask for?

Sounds cool but the only thing that is stopping me is that right now I am a few pounds overweight and I don't want to get rejected. I think I'll pass the polygraph with flying colors but I don't know what questions they ask. Thanks for the advice though.

Question on the poly are simple. they will be the same things they asked for in the beginning in a packet- drug use, criminal activities, 'did you come in here with the intent of liying' questions

http://www.lasd.org/recruitment/J2707-dst.pdf in here is the height / weight you should be at when you apply and ll the other things you'd need to know about joining the SD. like any department though i've heard you need to start running from the start of your application to get in the habbit and enter the Academy as fit as possible. Lot and lots of running through the whole corse

best part- you get paid for the Academy

10 years I'll get a retirement. In the meantime, the County give and education reimbursement that I'm taking advantage of. The wiffie is trying to get a job in texas in the next few years.
The black monday was a 10 or 15 minute (depending on which one you saw) clip of the first real day of the academy. I guess it was fairly amusing and culminated with one guy who could only do three push-ups. Running isn't the only hting that will get you in trouble.
Best of luck to you. I'm up North county in Lancaster.

Ah that was playing when I went in for my second interview with all my paperwork and pages written- they kept that vid on a loop.

Wouldnt happen to know when the next LASD Academy starts would you? They like to keep the people who apply in the dark until the very last second i heard. 3 or 4 days of heads up beforee you need to be at the STAR center or something
