Ok - I did a search, but to no avail. Here's what I'm looking to do. I had a V1, but it got stolen. So I decided to look at cordless radar's like solo s2 so i can use it in my car and bikes. However from the cost, it is close to the v1 and isn't as good. Anyways, I decided to get another v1, but here's my problem.

I want to use this for my car and 2 bikes, so I don't want to hard wire it. Has anyone used a lighter socket and wired it to the fuse box so that you can plug in and remove the radar whenever? If I end up putting the lighter socket in the tool kit, is that offter enough protection during a rain storm (i would remove the radar)? I guess I'm concerned about getting an electrical short if water got into that socket.

you can hardwire it in, but still unplug it and take it with you.

and i wouldn't worry about it shorting out unless the little plug fills up with water. just a little bit of moisture in there won't hurt anything.

thanks for the response, but if I hardwire it, i'd have to have a cord on the other bike and the car. I don't want to buy additional cords. I was just going to use one cord and take it with me. I was going to install a socket on the SV too. is there a company that makes direct plug in from the fuse box or do i just need to splice a socket from radio shack?

I'm looking for something like this

I hard wired a lighter plug with a fuse straight to my battery. I ran the wires into the little trunk next to your right mid faring. The trunk holds my escort x50 plug and the lighter socket. I lock it and just let the wires hang out. It's all behind the faring so nobody can see it. Just make sure to unplug it because the plug does draw energy even when the radardetector is unpluged. My plug had malfunctionedt from being connected for a long period of time.

I ran wires from the battery underneath and then out the front of the gas tank cover attaching coated, detachable connectors at the end. The other set of connectors lead to a lighter socket I bought at Radio Squat. Then I can plug in anything that leads into a lighter socket. I use this for my GPS unit which sits in the pocket map of my tank bag. Total cost might have been b/n $5 and $10.
