when the running lights are on should both of the filaments in the bulb be lit? i didn't think they were but no matter what combination of the wires i try, both filaments stay lit unless the blinker is on.

No, the dimmer of the 2 is lit when the bike is on. The brighter of the 2 is the turn signal, like on any other bike/car on the planet LOL. You have a ground wire mixed up with one of the other leads.
i'm positive i did it right. i even called lockhart phillips and asked them, but they said they would call me back. if anything these lights are defective.

i played with every possible combo of wires. the two striped wires were the negatives. the positives are what gave me trouble. when i connected the red and black the light would get very bright and hot. when i connected the black and green both filaments would still light, but it was not nearly as bright and didn't overheat. then when i use the blinker one of the filaments goes out and the other flashes. i thought only one filament was supposed to be on for running lights, but it appears this is not the case. i'll try to get ahold of lockhart phillips and find out for sure.

damnit, alright... both of the turn signal indicators stay on (on the guage cluster) except when i use the blinkers and then one of them flashes. do i need a resistor or something or did i **** it up? i am going to blow up my bike if i have to take that front end off one more time. that thing is the biggest pain in the ass!
