Jorge Lorenzo's management team have confirmed that the reigning 250cc world champion has a pre-contract in place with Yamaha for MotoGP next season.

Out of respect for current employer Aprilia, and to minimise distraction during his quest for a second 250cc world title, Lorenzo and his management have been refusing to comment on the Spaniard's near-certain 2008 MotoGP move.

However, as the 2007 season enters its second half, the 20-year-old's management company, Motorsport 48 (Lorenzo's race number, prior to this season, was 48), has confirmed to Spanish sporstpaper AS that both a verbal agreement and pre-contract are already in place to put Jorge on an M1 next year, presumably alongside Valentino Rossi in the factory team, and that only a few minor details now remain.

Lorenzo, who has adopted elaborate Rossi-like post race celebrations, has won six of the nine 250cc races so far this season, handing him a 23 point lead over Honda's Andrea Dovizioso

Meanwhile, Rossi has been partnered by Colin Edwards for the past three seasons, with whom the Italian works well and wants to keep as a team-mate, but - depending on the structure of Yamaha's MotoGP effort next year - the Texan may now have to seek a seat with the satellite Tech 3 team.

Edwards has stated that his goal is to remain with Yamaha in MotoGP and as such he would consider a Tech 3 ride if they had 'a winning tyre' - meaning either Michelin (the same as the factory team) or Bridgestone. Tech 3 is currently backed by Dunlop.

Regularly performing a pre-ride walk-around check of your bike will teach you both how it works and what needs periodic adjustment as well helping you to catch something that has a problem before it becomes a safety threat. Tires are the most commonly ignored mechanical component, so make sure the pressures are per the manual. However, loose chains and improperly adjusted clutch, brakes, and control positions can also affect your motorcycle control. You might want to ask your dealer's service department about these things if the manual leaves you uncertain of how to handle them.
