Hey guys, I was looking at a Michelin Pilot Race S2 180/55-17 and a Michelin Pilot Power Race PR2 120/70-17. My question is, what is the difference between a Power Race and just a Race? Do they have different profiles? These are going to be my track only tires, will this be a good choice?

The Power Race is the replacement for the Pilot Race. Even though the profiles are similiar, I suggest that if you're going to get a Power Race front, you also get a Power Race rear because the warm-up times will be different and the amount of stick they give you will be different.

that S2 is an old tire. stay away from it.
Was it a bad tire? Or are you saying that because the tire is probably old in age? Would I be better off getting another set of Pilot Powers? If I could find an s2 front would they work any better than the Pilot Powers?

So no one has used the Power Race rear/Race front combination before eh? I just want to make sure, because it's such a good deal. Would I be better off just getting me some more Pilot Powers?

Your full of crap, the Michelin Power Race C(PRC) front tire is NOTHING!!! lke the power race rear and you can still rock them at the same time!!

And about the Pilot Race S2, it owns.... UNLESS your doing top 10 club racer times on your track you will love it, I run a PR1 front and S2 rear(to save money) for track days and I run Expert in all my track-day clubs.

Sweet, what about running the pr2 front and the s2 rear? Bad idea?

If all your doing is track-days and your not trying to beat the track lap record, yes.... just remember these are DOT racing tires, they are nothing like the Pilot Power, they take AT LEAST 2 laps to warm up from full cold, and will have a completely different profile then the Pilot Power, they are very lean hungry tires! Also Michelins racing tires are known for amazing grip yet little feedback, each tire company makes the tires different, you just need to find the ones that suit you best!

PR1 and PR2 front tires are the same tire, just diff compound, the PR1 is the softest for example, I run really soft tires during the colder months, and Medium during the summer.

Thanks man, that's enough for me to give them a try. I am still in the beginner group so I should be good. I think I will like a more pointy profile.

Cool, just keep in mind they will be rock friggen hard till they are warm, then they will be as soft as butter, dont even think about trying to drag knee on the first few laps unless you have tire warmers!!

if you're still in the beginner group the new Pilot Power 2CT should prove adequate for you & since it's cheaper than running DOT race tires it's a great bargain IMO, a bit more superior than your regular Pilot Powers with a softer rubber compound on the sides just like the Power Race.

I was leaning towards those until I found these for $239 shipped. I will see how these do and go from there.

Duel compound is pretty worthless if you track ride, it is supposed to save tire life, but you wear down the edges of a tire much faster then the center anyways and once that edge is gone the tire is done for the track, but the PP 2CT will be a great street tire that should increase the life of them greatly for normal riding.

the PP 2CT has the same compound on the center treads as on the regular PP, only the sides are a bit softer for more cornering grip, for street riding the PP 2CT will last just as long as any regular PP.
