Well 7 races to go, Marc holding on to that big lead, can he increase it even more with a win here, or will Cal be calling his wife again :) Smith out Lowes in, that should be interesting to see, hope he does well. Lorenzo will be looking for the 25 pts no doubt, and Rossi hopes to do the same he won last year here

About the circuit
With more than 60 years of history Silverstone has become one of the most prestigious venues dedicated to motorsport. Completely revamped in recent years, a multimillion pound investment saw the completion in 2010 of a first phase of works to greatly improve the venue, making it one of the fastest tracks on the MotoGP calendar and earning high praise from the World Championship riders who enjoyed the new layout. The ‘Silverstone Wing’, a state-of-the-art, multi-million pound complex, became a new landmark at the circuit from 2011, thus adding to already breathtaking facilities at Silverstone.

Smith out for Silverstone and Misano - Lowes to step in
Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider to sit out the upcoming back-to-back GPs, with WorldSBK rider set for replacement duty
Tags MotoGP, 2016, OCTO BRITISH GRAND PRIX, Bradley Smith, Monster Yamaha Tech 3
Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) has been confirmed as having to miss his home race at Silverstone and the following Gran Premio TIM di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini after a crash in a free practice for the Oschersleben 8H endurance race left the British rider with an injured thigh. Initially fearing a break, it was later confirmed that there was no fracture, but Smith underwent surgery on the laceration sustained and has now confirmed his absence from the Octo British Grand Prix at Silverstone, and the back-to-back visit to Misano.

PATA Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team rider Alex Lowes recently tested the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 machine at the one day official test following the Czech GP, with the Brit given the opportunity as a reward for his win for Yamaha in the prestigious Suzuka 8H - alongside Tech 3's Pol Espargaro. Lowes will now be the replacement for Smith at the back-to-back British and San Marino GPs, joining his brother Sam Lowes (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) in the MotoGP™ paddock.

Domi Aegerter is out of the race due to injury (torn shoulder ligaments and broken ribs).

Jorge Navarro well move up to Gresini's Moto2 team:

Moto3™ frontrunner Jorge Navarro (Estrella Galicia 0,0) is set to make the move up to Moto2™ next season, with the Spaniard having signed a deal with Federal Oil Gresini Moto2. The team are title contenders in the intermediate category of the world championship with Sam Lowes in 2016, and have called on the services of Moto3™ title contender Navarro to take the seat as Lowes graduates to MotoGP™ to ride the Aprilia Racing Team Gresini bike.

Navarro's career has seen him move from title contention in the FIM CEV Repsol through to his first taste of the world championship with the Marc VDS team in the latter half of 2014, before the Valencian signed on full-time with Estrella Galicia 0,0 for 2015. Having scored pole positions and podiums, as well as a first win in the Catalan GP earlier in 2016, Navarro is ready for another challenge as he sets his sights on Moto2™.

Jorge Navarro:*“I’m very happy and excited to have the opportunity to step up to the intermediate class of the World Championship with the Team Federal Oil Gresini Moto2. It’s an exciting challenge that I face with great enthusiasm. I would like to thank Federal Oil and Fausto Gresini for the trust they put in me, and for giving value to the work I’m currently doing in Moto3. I’m convinced that starting from next year we will do great things together!”

Fausto Gresini, Team Principal:*“It’s a great pleasure and pride to be able to continue the important project in the Moto2 World Championship together with Federal Oil, a valuable partner since 2012. Our efforts in recent years led us to become top players in an extremely fought category, as evidenced by the results we are getting with Sam Lowes, currently fighting for the World Title. In 2017 we are determined to remain at the top and consequently, with Lowes who will step up to MotoGP, the choice fell on Jorge Navarro, undoubtedly one of the most interesting young talents of Moto3, with whom we signed a 2-year contract. Navarro proved to learn quickly, becoming a ‘big’ of the smaller displacement: we are convinced that he can fast adapt also to Moto2, a Championship where the level is currently very high. It will be an exciting challenge and we look forward to start working with Jorge, aware that we can offer to him a top team and a strong technical package, thanks to the support of Federal Oil. For this reason we are already organizing some important testing sessions to prepare his debut in the best possible way”.

Jesus, massive crash at the start at turn 2. PE off on a stretcher, Loris Baz still down. Red flag. They both went down and slid back onto track, but neither was hit. It looked bad anyway, but it could have been so much worse.

Quick restart procedure, race reduced to 19 laps. Baz taken off in the ambulance, but he was conscious and waving as he was loaded into the bus. Pol will not be restarting the race as he didn't return to his box.

Fantastic race! Maverick was head of the class once he got to the front to take Suzuki's first win in 9 years. Fantastic battles for the remaining podium spots, resulting in Marquez over-cooking it and going off-track to lose a few positions. (Good thing he ended up being Pedrosa so DP26 could yield and give him another spot or MM93 would have lost a little more to Rossi in the championship.) Domination by Vinales, a Lorenzo-like performance. Crutchlow backs up his win with a 2nd, Rossi completes the podium and makes a slight gain (3 points) on Marquez in the championship. Lorenzo finishes 8th, and the surprise of the entire weekend, Bradley Smith's replacement Alex Lowes, gains points in his first appearance, placing 13th.

Dorna's dreams have come true, parity is coming to the premier class. Seven different winners this season, two independent wins, 4 different manufacturer wins, 4 first time winners, and long droughts for Ducati and Suzuki have ended. Granted, weather has played a huge role in those results, and even with all those different winners, Marquez is almost running away with the championship, but the racing has been pretty memorable this season.

Great Race, good to see cal up there again. Grats to Maverick, he won it splendidly!

Also... I love it when MM93 forgets about the championship. What a thrill to watch him go bonkers :p

What a fierce battle from Marc and Vale, that was full out old Marc right there! glad he held it together for a 4th place finish! yes can believe this season thus far, amazing to see so many diff winners absolutley love it!! So very happy for Maverick taking his first win, he had that Suzuki dialed in for sure!! Cant believe Cal, just amazing for that guy!! Thought we were going to see a Duc on the podium, poor old Iannone crashing out again, bad weekend for him all together.
