Great news. So basically the tire companies have to figure something new out or motogp is taking into their own hands and making a spec tire rule. Either way is good. But I think the manufacturers should just increase the tire limit OR allow tire choices to be made after the first practice session.

Thats ri-friggin-diculous. Michelin doesn't have the advantage anymore, Rossi or Honda aren't winning, its all the damn tires because it doesn't have a thing to do with ducati. They're all looking for excuses.

Why don't people admit Bridgestone kicked the crap out of michelin on a level playing field and start questioning how good the michelins really were before that? The fact that any Bridgestone riders got on the podium at all last year is amazing.

Say it with me: Bridgestone makes better MotoGP tires.

This is good news for sure. I really wish they would go back to last year's rules all together, no tire limit and 990 cc's.

They really didn't expect the bikes to go faster than the 990's. The reason for the switch was that the tracks didnt have enough run-off room. Some might argue that the 800's are even more dangerous though because they carry a lot more corner speed.

I wish they would have just stuck with what they had last year. This whole switch just cost everyone a ton of money and headaches.

thats true d all the teams had to spend that much more developing the new bikes...they should just go back to the old format....is that possible?

last year was sweet.

Rossi again elevated his riding skills to championship level. He outrode the BIKE into a few getoffs. And almost snatched the championship from Nicky. Nobody's even close to doing that this year.

Everyone except Stoner looks like they're being held back by their respective GP rides.

sucks. there's always next year.

Yeah they need to do something. The bikes are just getting to watered down with all the traction control and electronics. It's getting to be all about the bike and tires and not the rider anymore. The 80/20 rule is starting to get thrown out the window. The bikes are alot easier to ride now than before. Even Miguel Duhamel said that his superbike was harder to ride at laguna than the gp bike he rode. He said that his superbike would spin and slide coming out of the corners because of the power and the gp bike didn't spin once because of all the traction control. Not to take anything away from Roger Hayden because he is a great rider, but do you think he would have finished 10th in his first gp if he was riding a 500cc 2 stroke? I doubt it. I just want the racing to atleast go back to as good as it was last year.

but even the 990s were easy as all hell to ride compared to the 500s.... those were near imposible at times.. compared to those the 990s were an everyday commuter!!!

it all just progress... the 800s will be amazing in 2 seasons when everybody has their shiit together again and there are 3 or 4 fast bikes!!!

I wonder if Honda and Yamaha had any influences to this change. Maybe they threaten to pull a Ducati 1098 move. LOL

I think its pretty clear that the tire war is having a negative effect on the championship. Before when Michelin was dominating it was the status quo but I think it was perhaps making some teams look worse than they really were. And who wants to spend 10's of millions of dollars in Moto GP only to be thwarted by rubber?

However, I think the simplest and clearest reason to go to a spec tire is that a tire war can have an adverse on the racing while not providing much benefit to the series at all. Going to a spec tire wouldn't hurt attendance, wouldn't hurt the TV numbers, and wouldn't really hurt any of the teams. Yeah its against the pure paradigm of prototype racing but so are things the testing limitations, the ban on oval pistons and the minimum weight.

Yeah this argument is kind of tired to me. Sure the bikes are easier to ride now because of TC but that also means we have less riders banged up in the hospital from violent highsides. In the 500 cc days even the best riders ended up getting battered and broken from crashes and several championships were not decided on track, but in the hospital.

In the end the best guys will still win, they just won't win by as big of a margin.

I'm all for spec tires. That would end this foolishness. Maybe they should just push the day back. Instead of Thursday before the race, say end of the day friday, after the first sessions. anything except michelin using test data and flying in overnight specials. thats crap. if that is what it takes for michelin to be competetive, they shouldn't be in the business in the first place.

I could care less about which tire company is winning. I want to see the best racers battle each other. I'm also for bringing back 990ccs. They should also choose one tire manufacture per season.
