Hello Riders, Just thought I would vent out my feelings here. After many years of stay in lovely San Diego, I'm moving to Austin in couple of weeks. One of the main reasons I bought my bike here was that I could lane split (safely) and save a lot of time during my commute. Plus awesome weather of course. Now Austin is hot and no lane sharing is allowed in Texas. I do love riding in general but I can't stand sitting in traffic behind a car in stop and go traffic. But alas, that's what it's going to be. Rant over. Have a lovely day every one!

There is a bill somewhere in Texas' state legislature to change that.

When you get to Austin, look up the Supermoto guys and buy one. Most fun you will ever have on a bike. Mountain bike trails (not mud) and other hooliganism stuff. Big group of them there. Beats lane splitting anyday of the week!

Lane splitting is not adventure, it's just what it is, time saving and not getting rear ended are primary goals, but yea you would see stupidity a lot.

There are 5 local tracks, and plenty of hill country to ride sportbikes in. I belong to a LARGE group of responsible riders. we'd love to have you ride with us.

San Diego is nice but Austin is the place to be imo if you love to ride and you're going to live in Texas.

No more Californians here!! Jk

.. But seriously

Austin Sportbike riders is a good group to check out (ASR) - main focus is rider safety

Currently we have a huge push for lane splitting and hopefully will get it pushed through soon

You'll like Austin. Daily commuting sucks, but great rides out in the hill country.

And I echo TheX about the tracks. My track group (RideSmart.info) has 10 or so track days at COTA this year - you will not find a comparable track - way fun. And there are 5 (used to be 6 - RIP TWS) good tracks within driving distance.

PM when you get here if you want to try track riding. (I've given up street for now - too dangerous.)

as someone from MN and who only has a riding season that is basically from May to Sept/Oct, I'm jealous of all you southern folk. Have fun in Austin, I hear it's a blast to ride around in.

Side note... why is this in the Mid-west section? Texas is definitely NOT in the Mid-west... haha

If you're an idiot, I'm a... well... big idiot? I rode SS for almost 20 years before finally trying out the track. Now full throttle at the track is just plain fun, but 55 mph on the road scares me.

Thanks mate. Austin doesn't that bad now haha.
I posted thus thread in general section but some moderator moved it here. Not sure if its cause of poor geographic knowledge or lack if appropriate sub forum :)
