I had my bike apart for the past 3 weeks doing several upgrades. What I did was have the gas cap removed (gas tank taped over with masking tape), took off the headers and exhaust to install an aftermarket one, took off the alternator and crankcase covers & put them both back on with liquid gasket, and did an oil & filter change.

During the process I started the bike a few times to see if I had everything connected properly. I noticed the MIL & FI were on but I figured that was because I had the engine drained of oil for a good 2 weeks while I had the alternator & crankcase covers off. I figured the FI light was on b/c the O2 sensors were unplugged. I changed the oil filter & put oil back in after I re-installed the covers.

My aftermarket exhaust system does not have the O2 sensor plugs and currently I don't have them (I say "them" because I have the 2004 Cali 600RR so there's 2 O2 sensors) plugged in to anything.

Tonight, I took it out for a spin around the block and the red MIL light stayed on. Before I left the garage, it went off for a bit but came back on, I'm not sure if it was blinking or not because I wasn't paying too much attention. I figured it would go off if I ran the bike a few miles so the engine could get oil back through it.

However, that wasn't the case because the light stayed on until I came back in. My total ride was about 10 minutes, I didn't go over 5k RPM b/c it's 1am and I don't need to have the neighbors hate me.

My guess is that either:

1. I need to get the dynojet.com O2 sensor eliminators for the FI light to be off. Maybe that's why the MIL light is on too.
2. Having the gas cap off for about 3 weeks screwed something up, despite the fact I had the tank hole taped up with masking tape.

Any other ideas as to what the problem might be?

Ok so correct me if I'm wrong, but I think my problem is because I have the O2 sensors unplugged. I just realized that the oil pressure light has never been on, so the only thing that it could be is the O2 sensor plugs not being plugged in to anything. My dynojet O2 caps are in the mail.
