I just bought an 04 and I have a leaking fork seal on the right side and the honda dealership is recommending I replace both even though the other one isn't leaking. Are they just trying to suck money out of me or is this really common? The bike only has 1900 miles on it so I would think the other side would still be good.
I would've posted this in the above thread, but it's old and....who cares right?
Anyways, I wanted tor reply to your comment about the forks working in unison:
It won't matter much at our level, but I've heard of racers doing different settings for each leg. They say it works better based on L+R corners.
As for the original poster: Seems to me that you purchased the bike used. Do yourself a favor and get both forks done. (better if you can do it yourself) Plan on spending a little dough on anything used. You never know about the previous owners habits.
They shouldn't be charging you much extra to change the second seal. The labor involved for taking off one fork leg doesn't have to be repeated to take off the second. Putting the seal in the tube is a 30 minute job max.
Make sure you ask for the old seals so they can prove that the work was actually done.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
