Bike popped a blinker fuse so I replaced the resistors for the integrated brake light cause its the only thing I cut into on the bike. Now the blinkers work but when I went to start the bike the headlight, (hid's), went as soon as I hit the start switch. I bought a multimeter and I have no idea how to use it. I put an 07 radial MC and had to cut into the housing of the kill switch to make room. I have got caught in the rain twice last week. I'm thinking it might be the housing I cut into and water getting into it. But I'm not sure..... any help is greatly appreciated. I'm sure Nico can help me :)

Sounds like a short probably in your run/stop... Did you keep the stock 03-06 run/stop? You need a 1000rr or 07-10 run/stop.

yeah its the stock one. but i chopped it up a bit to make the mc fit. im sure that's the problem but it doesn't do it all the time.

Don't kill yourself. Get that fixed first and then see if you have more problems.. Easy enough to swap it for one that fits.. T

so i did a continuity check on everything. come to find out that its the lead from the brake lever switch rubbing on the brale line. it rubbed through the rubber and grounded out. wasnt a big area so it explains why the periodic fuse blowing... im going to get a new kill switch and throttle housing for an 07. but what can i do about the brake switch leads? they are right on top of the brake lines...

Unplug it and use the front brake switch. How often do you us the rear brake as a signaling as braking? T

I'm talking about the front brake bud... I switched the MC which was the OEM for an 06, for an 07 MC. There isn't any room for the switch leads..... guess ill have to figure a way for them not to touch.

I'm confused why your brake switch wires can't be rerouted out of the way of your brake lines?
Note that the new kill switch will change the way the harness (07 kill sw. includes two new brake switch wires + fastons) fits in there a little bit, which may help you out.

I know the 07 switch wont change anything. But I'm still going to get it for clearance issues. But I don't know what a faston is bro. Ill figure a way to re rout the wires.

Haha, well whatever you want to call the female spade connector, that pushes onto the terminals on the brake switch.

Take a picture of how you have it setup..
This has been done many, many times and I know it will work. (did this on my bike)

ok, ill put it back together and take a pic. but im not sure i understand what you mean by "it" working? are you saying that i can use the rear brake light switch on the front? i was just going to cut the female adapters off and solder the wire onto the terminal.

No, I wasn't thinking that your front could rub a hole in your wiring, that is really weird. Those wires shouldn't be close to the brake lines that move.

I think it's a routing issue that you have. Do you have 03-05 throttle or 07-10?

The front brake switch is open/closed switch. Closed and the brake turns on, open and it's off so as long as the spade connections are good just see if there is a way to route the wire so it doesn't make contact with the brake line.

06 throttle. im just going to reroute the wires.

in order to put the 07 s/k switch on, all i need is the switch and the throttle housing right?

Yup. Buy my throttle housing/tube!
damn, i just bought one off ebay for 4 bucks......next time post sooner or ill chop your head off.:banger:
also, i just noticed that the new kill switch has the leads facing at a 90 deg angle so i wont be cutting or soldering any wires.

As far as getting a little clearance between your brake wiring and the cable is concerned, if you can't find a better way of routing it to prevent damage it would probably be best just to extend the wires a little to make them longer - problem solved, however if your still worried then just use a separator...

now im having another problem... i dont understand wtf it is. a few minutes ago i turned the ignition on and the headlights (low beam hid) didnt come on. so i take every thing back off and did a continuity check on the headlight wires and hid wires. everything is fine. so i unplug the front brake switch and wait a few minutes, go back out reconnect the battery and leave the brake switch disconnected. now the lights work. this is really fukking aggravating me. i can fix just about anything but when it comes to electrical im like a 5 year old with a calculus book.
