I changed my oil today, but I put too much in and now the oil window has oil all the way to the top. How bad is that? Is there a way to release a controlled amount of oil to get it down to the right level.

Sure, undo the drain plug a bit and let some oil drain... start the bike and let it idle for 4 - 5 minutes. Let it cool completely and check the level again. Repeat process until oil level is correct.

Make sure you got your bike level when your checking it, just a small lean in either direction can give you a false reading.

It shouldn't be a problem if you slightly overfill it. If you do overfill it by a lot, the crankshaft will whip up and foam up the oil. Aerated oil in the lubrication system is not good for internal parts, as the oil pump will then pump both oil and air to the engine parts. This will lack lubrication.
