2003 Cbr600rr with a strange leak.

The bike was wrecked, mainly cosmetic...or so we thought.

The 2nd cylinder from the left side has a large amount of oil from right below the header. Possibly the head gasket, but i know there are other possibilities. Under the exhaust port there is a bolt into the cylinder--what is that bolt? red arrow

Also under each port is a small hole--roughly 3mm wide...what is that sucker and can that leak oil? blue arrow

Head gasket seals mostly compression and coolant but I do believe there is an oil passage close to that spot. And I think that bolt with the blue arrow does go into the oil passages.

I'd have to go home and look at the manual to tell you for sure... Looks like worse case scenario... replace the head gasket.

don't know about the red arrow, but the blue arrow is a coolant drain bolt- it drains the jackets.

It poured out oil when running. Not a drip a little stream. Left a quater size oil spot on driveway after 30 sec of running. Not to mention what is on the heads and everything else.
I think I am gonna cut my losses and give it back to the guy. I have yet to pay him so I am gonna just give it back. The ticking I mentioned in a previous thread got alot worse. Not an exhaust leak. I had mechanic friend come over and he said " its coming from top end " I think it is just gonna be a bigger head-ache than I wanta deal with.
Any opions???

Any motor rebuild is expensive. For the time and money... it is cheaper and easier to find a new motor off of craigslist or ebay. I think you can get one for less than $1k. you still have to strip the bike down to change it.

I'd say that's really your only option.

I just thought of this but if all the trouble is in the heads... just new heads instead of an entire engine.

I just got word from some of his friends that he ran the motor without oil
