take them off and do it right. if you decide not to take them off, it will look liike shyt. but since they are aluminum you better know what your doing. you cant just sand them primer and paint.

how do you plan on doing this paint job?

like shortstack said... etching primer is key, and prepwork in general is important. doing it on the bike would be out of the question. i'd leave it alone but if you're set on doing it, get a stand, remove the forks and do it right so you won't have any regrets later.

If you have an 04 with standard forks you could paint the fork sliders easily without removing the whole fork. Just take off the front wheel, fender and unbolt the calipers from the fork. Make sure you mask everything off really well so you don't get overspray on the fork tube.

i wouldnt do this. just take them off and do it right.
