Hello guys,

This morning as I was riding to work I run over a plastic supermarket bag that I didn't manage to avoid. In the evening as I went to leave the office I started the bike up and let it warm and I started to notice the smell of burning plastic. Upon closer inspection I noticed that parts or perhaps the whole bag got caught on the headers and melted on them.

The question now is whether I do anything about it or just let any excess plastic burn away? Should I use anything to scrape the leftover plastic from the headers or will it melt away?

Any suggestions, leave it or clean it? And if clean it any tips on how?

Cheers!

As soon as I saw the title I could smell it. Try to chip off as much as you can when it's cooled down (paint scraper or sharp strong knife), then let the rest burn and melt off. Wear a nose plug or something for the next 50 miles. Yuck

Edit: do this when it's cooled off (after you've ridden) not totally cold. It will come off easier this way, and hopefully not stick to whatever you are taking it off with.

Damn that sucks! Definitely clean it off. Try to gently scrape it off with a screwdriver or something. If that doesn't work maybe it would be best to get the headers hot again and wipe off as much as you can while it's gooey.

Thanks guys,

I have been doing some work around the house painting and scraping old paint from balcony railings so I have some tools to scrape paint. Will try and use those before and after riding to get as much of it removed and see how it goes. It doesn't smell when riding but when stationary it has a tendency to rise up and makes itself present :cursin:

Thanks again for the info and tips!

Rub the headers down with gasoline and a rage when the headers are cool
