Hey guys....Well I was riding tonight and took an hour drive to continue the break in period on my new CBR. So everything was all fine and dandy untill I got to my destination...I went to park in my girlfriends garage and when I tried to push it into her garage (it was in neutral) it seemed harder than normal...it got my attention and I noticed that there was a sound coming from the from wheel....its like a light muffled sound...almost like a scrapping....it only comes from the front of the bike, and when the wheel is turning...or I am moving the tires forward or back....

Now...about 5 minutes before the end of the trip, a man cut me off and I needed to stop rather quickly. nothing to hard but harder than normal and a bit abrupt. THis is a new bike only 100 miles on it...Did something happen to my baby?

I am thinking the piston on the caliper is stuck, and engaging the front brake just slightly, as to allow the wheel to turn but causing a light scraping sound....

PLEASE HELP.....I have to go to work tommorrow and I am a clinical psychology doctoral student, so I simply cannot be late or not show up...this bike is my only ride! :cursin:

If you have stands use them to get the front of the bike up in the air, try spinning the front wheel by hand, making sure no front brake pressure is applied obviously, and see what happens. If there is resistance then something with the brakes is wrong. Could be many things really. Try pumping the brakes a couple of times and see if there is a diffeence with the free spin test.

You might have to call an overnight shop or something?

You could crack the bleeder on the front calipers, that should relieve the pressure. Don't squeeze the brake, though, you don't want to get air in the system.

:/ dam bro, that sucks...

But, as stolen from some rando post I just found:

The brakes drag (slightly) to stop anything getting between the pad and disk that might cause scoring. Its simpler for the OEM than fitting any other sort of protection to the pad/disk.

If the wheel spins freely for maybe 10 seconds (or less, even a 3-4 good rotations) after a good shove, all is OK despite some slight rubbing (not squealing) noise.

Personally, I think that so long as you're getting over 1 turn, she'll be right. If not, call up your honda dealer and get them to check it out.

If that does not suffice, we will need to do some investigationings:

a) did you ride in a puddle or get the wheel wet?
b) when you came home, did the front break smell funny at all?
c) does it make the noise for the entire rotation of the wheel?
d) are the rims clean?
e) during the last 5min of riding, did you feel anything abnormal in the breaking?

check for excessive disc brake drag by feeling with finger for excessive heat.

After 20 mins normal riding pull over and check how warm your fronts are.

w correct drag they should NOT burn your finger.....but may be slightly warm=

OK.

okay well to anwser a few of the question....

a. No
b. not really (but today on the drive home from my gf's it smelled like somethign was burning up, i nearly pulled over. Also I noticed when I break from 60 or so there is some vibration.
c. yes
d.yes very clean
E. no it didnt feel akward during the last five minutes, but today when I was paying closer attention the bike doesnt coast or engine break normally. It feels like there is drag...:(

Have you done anything to the bike in the 100 miles you've had it? New levers by chance?
No, new levers or other mods that might affect this.

I drove home this morning, almost pulled over for a burning smell that started about 15 min in...lasted about 2 or 3 minutes. I checked the rotors when I got home, it was about a 25 min drive, they werent scolding hot, but definitely not just warm...just not enough to burn me.

What do you guys think? Normal? Or should I get it to a shop as soon as I can?

I think you are fine and the good ok placebo effect is taking place. Just cause you think something might be wrong now you are looking for any and everything that might not feel "right" when in fact it's all normal.

I could be wrong but Im almost willing to bet everything is perfect.

i can ride my bike for 30 mins ( cuz thats all the longer ive driven and checked) and brakes be cool. Get off as soon as i stop using the front brake and can touch it and its cool to the touch. Bleed them out if you thing there is a real prob. Or if you can prop the front up and spin it . It should spin freely for the most part and there will be some drag (metal on metal sound as it goes round).
