Well..my dog collapsed today so we rushed him to the vet..kept him in an incubator for awhile and he needed IV and is in heart failure... well for that along with xrays and stuff cost 1600...then they said we needed to take him to heart specialist.. we took him there and she said 4000 and he would need to stay there over 24 hours, no gaurentee that he would survive the night... so we took him home and hes sitting over here coughing basically drowning in fluid leaking from his heart.. i dont know..we were going to put him down but i dont know if i can...we had him since he could fit in my hand, over 8 years, hes a great dog.. but i just feel so horrible if i put him down..:banghead::triplets:.

his name is Frisco..i cant imagine life without him you know? you guys think its the right choice putting him down? god i hate this

If he's suffering, it's best to just put him down and end his suffering. My wife had to make that decision with the family dog a few years ago. You have to do what's best for your dog and not necessarily what you want.

hes taking meds that are supposed to help with the fluid... but they stopped working bout 2 days ago and he got really bad today.. she said there is slight chance with right combination he can get out of heart failure. sorry bout that forgot to add it. he still looks like he has some will to live when i look in his face...

Its the hardest thing to do, but you gotta do whats best for him. I just put my Husky that I had for 15 years down. I know how hard it is, but again you have to think of him first. You'll miss him but you don't him to suffer do you? Good luck man. I'll pray for you and him.

I had to put my dog down last year and it was one of the worst things I've ever had to do (and trust me, that's saying something). She had cancer and they couldn't treat some of the symptoms. She was still full of life and love but, without going into details, there was really no other choice. I cried like a baby for 30 minutes in the vet's office after they took her away.

If your dog is in pain or suffering and isn't going to get better then you probably need to do what's right for him. He doesn't want to hurt any more than you do.

Yep, I agree with that. Its so sad because a dog wants to be with their owner and give their love....but sometimes you just gotta do the right thing for them to end their suffering.

In all seriousness, your pet's in a lot of pain. I'd put him to sleep. Gotta do what's right even though you'll feel the pain of loss.

My cat's getting old (15 yrs old) and just over night her mood, physical activity, diet has changed.

I don't want to sound like another SAW episode but what if he wants to live? It's easier said than done when it's not your dog. If you love your dog just as much, you'll know what to do. I can't give you an advice because I'm not in any position to say what is right or wrong. Good luck!

Best wishes.. If you decide to put him down, stay in the room with him when they do it. Im sure he would want you by his side. Do not let him be alone. My girl and I held on to our little one till he was gone and it is something you should do. I speak from experience.

I cant even imagine what your going through. I have no idea what I would do without my lab, I'd do anything for her. As people have said your dog will tell you whats best. Be with him/her till the end.

I agree with what was said earlier, look into your dogs eyes, you will know what you need to do. It's going to be a hard decision, but you'll have to listen to what your heart tells you. I swore I'd never put my pup down, but with kidney failure- we had no choice.. He was suffering. It's selfish to let them go through that much pain just because you can't bare to see them go. I know it's rough dude, just know you're not alone, and your loved ones are there for you. Hang in there bro, I pray to God he finds the strength to pull through. Prayers sent.

it does seem funny when typed out, but seriously, my cocker spaniel know he was doomed as his kidneys failed, we talked to the vet, they offered surgery to assist with no guarantee on the outcome, we looked at the dog, and his eyes flat said to me and my mom "im done, please let this stop"

there wasnt a question about what to do after we looked at the dogs eyes, he was put down minutes later
