power commander auto tune

So I am contemplating picking up at PCV. I got in touch with a local bike tuner and found he charges only $200 for a dyno tune. They have an in house dyno and have done turbo, nos and na bikes. Now at the same point you can find an auto tune for roughly the same price. Obviously with the dyno tune I will be able to see the power gain. So which would you think is better? I currently only have a fmf slipon but have some diy velocity stacks and k&n filter ready to go in as well.

I think the whole autotune is awesome, I wish it was out when I purchased my PC. Anyway don't do the DIY velocity stacks, they've proven that you lose power all around, and the K&N filter for our bike doesn't fit well and falls apart. Get a BMC.
Depending on your mods, you might not benefit from a custom map. The autotune unit or Bazzaz or Motty units works well. They require you to make some decisions and operate your bike in a certain way to get a good map. The wide band sensor that comes with Autotune is only good for about 50 hours. You want to get a map quick and then take the sensor out. The cool thing about the autotune is that you could get different maps for spring/fall, summer and winter. Or if you go to the mountains, you could remap for your environment. A dyno can't do that.

The bad part about the autotune is that you don't know what kind of power is being made. The unit will tune for a specific AFR, but you don't know exactly which AFR your engine wants to make peak power. You need a dyno to tell you that.

The best way to tune your bike is a combo of dyno and self tuning device. Get a custom map from the tuner and than run the device to get a better map under real world conditions.

The autotune is more bang for your buck if you just want the cheapest solution. You'll get a good tune. Just make sure you use the device correctly.

Good luck.
