Guys,

I did a lot of searching and couldn't find anything, that helped me with this problem. I am installing Power Racing Rails and having trouble tighting the bolts. I am having trouble with the rear mounts. The front engine mounts are easy enough but How do you tighten the rear mounts? Nothing fits for me to tighten the bolt and nut inside the racing rail. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but i need help....

Thanks in advance

Not too sure about exactly what you're tryin to ask here, but I can answer any questions you have about Powers railz and sub-cages on this bike. just PM me if this pic doesn't help!

I got a nearly new powers sub-cage for sale too if you're interested (cheap too!)

Good Luck!

Socket Size

Yes the socket size is too big on both end s I can not tighten the bolt. Someone said I would have to drill a hole is that true? What would drilling a hole do?

Did you guys install this without any other modifications then fairing cutitng?

Thanks.

I did mine completely custom as the race railz are a crap idea for positioning in my books, just look at Chip O above ^^^ As the mount is completely diff then if you had crash bungs/frame sliders and thus if you already had one set on and switched to the other you need 2 diff holes, and then stuffing up the fairings more. Sorry Chip O im not having a go, dont take it personnely :)
I just expected and wanted something i could change whenever i feel, like of i wanted my vortex frame sliders on i could easily swap them over etc, But with the race railz you couldnt do that OEM. BTW if you ask them nicely and all ask them for some new stickers for your newly moded race railz, as they sent me the extra stickers at no cost, and thus it all looks the same now, stickers and all :)

So what i did was get some tubing the same as the railz engine mount front. Measured where the same location is for the engine mount so its a direct bolt into that location, as you would with frame sliders. Be sure to measure dead centre, and allow for the centre of the tubing. Then cutt off the race railz mounting metal, Reweld the tubing on ( I went to a local welder paid a carton of beerr as i have no welder), Re powdercoat it the colour i wanted or get some spray can colour and paint up after its all cleaned up and mount as you would.

Now onto your issue the Left side is a PIA for your socket and or ratchet to fit in, either go to a hardware store looking for one skinny enough to fit in. Another issue can be its so far in your ratchet tool cant grasp that far in to your socket attachment. What i did was disconnect the ratchet/socket, and place the socket within the hole and have some long nose pliers to keep that socket in place and tighten the bolt up. as in time it comes out enough that you re connect your socket and ratchet to tighten it all up. then go buy yourself some rubber grommets to fill the hole from looking ugly. or another trick is on some stools there are rubber feet. I found these fit perfectly to cap off the hole :)

And another tip, get a cheap mouse pad (the rubber variety with material on top) cutt a section for the subframe mount area, to save it scratching your paint. Glue it onto the mount and your set, free from damage :)

some pics are here..

good idea! I like it. you should talk to powers about it and see what they say. i wonder if they had a reason to do it different.

Maybe something like this below, but save your money and try the plier trick till you can get your socket/ratchet/extension into it.

As for powers they are tough to get hold of as is, and i cant see them changing the design of it. Just one of those mods that should of been better planned from their end. I actually considered doing it myself as a kit to do as i bought a pipe bender and all but need a welder and better skills..maybe in future

Concerns

So I purchased the thin wall sockets worked great, but now I have some final concerns after tightening the bolts.

1 - The racing rails are not flush on the engine frame. Does anyone know why?
2 - The Holes for the rear mount were never centered exactly. Is that correct?
3 - The other end of the Long Bolt is sticking far out on the left. Is that normal?

Thanks for everyones help.

1) Mine were never flush either, Im sorry but Powerz are kinda dodgy, their product isnt a A+ rating, its more of a C rating.. And if you go through the stunt area or do a search they get heaps of complaints. Also as a idea i used mouse pad to stick to that area to help with cushioning, and to fill the space.

2) I redrilled mine to suit.

3) I used my own bolts, i shopped high and low for, actually i think i used my Vortex ones instead. Or as an idea and quicker way, buy the crash bobbins from Motofansclub, or ask to buy just the bolts and use them :)

My railz prob cost me a extra $250 to get them on right :( that also includes my custom work, but still without custom, bolts, new rubber mounting pieces, hole caps, better mush caps. New bolts, I bought a pipe bender to get it to line up better with engine frame.

New decals given the ones on the OEM were upside down :(
