My 05 600rr started blowing oil at the track from the oil filter. Almost turned into a real bad day. Is it possible to build enough oil pressure to blow out the o-ring? If so, does anyone know what I should look into in terms of parts? I'm hoping it is just a defective oil filter.

Additional info:

1) Filter tightened to spec
2) O-ring oiled before install
3) Old o-ring not left on bike
4) Filter has been in garage for years (maybe o-ring got brittle?)

I would go with number 4 being the reason behind your leak

That is kind of what I'm thinking/hoping for as well. I'm just glad I didn't lay down the bike. Lost my back tire in a corner pretty bad though :retard:

 I called the previous owner of this racebike and confirmed that the filters he gave me with the bike did indeed sit for a loooonnnnnggggg time. In fact, the shop that originally sold them went out of business years ago.

it's also possible that when you remove the old filter the o-ring sticks on the sump, and you end up with 2 o-rings which won't hold oil for very long.
