hey guys just got to thinking bout the bike today and wondered what kind of gearing race bikes have? do most of them run the standard 15/43 or what? no real reason just wondering. thanx

I'd say most have stock or 15/45. I'm running 15/45 and I think its perfect for the track.

i was contemplating the 520 conversion, or at least 525 with 15/45 sprockets to get a bit more midrange for those short, technical tracks like Pacific Raceways in my home state. I like the top speed of the current gear and it pulls just fine...

Also for making shameless wheelies easier. ;)

basically you gear it so that you hit top speed at the fastest poing on the track without much to spare
if you gear too low you'll get halfway down the fastest straight in 6th gear redline and lose time
if you gear too high you won't be getting as much acceleration

also experienced racers play with gearing to alter shift points

oh yeah I forgot to mention that some tracks' straights are too short to get anywhere 6th gear no matter how you gear the bike, for those you can go with whatever your comfortable with
