I have had axle sliders, took them off, not a fan as i was scraping them on certain corners. Now imagine a one time when it doesnt scrape on the road but the rock / ashphalt of the ride catches on the axle slider!! it will lift your rear tyre up and you will be thrown off the bike..
The material/bolt used is never the best for material used, its easily bent but in ways i prefer for that to bend then the swingarm to get damaged from the force..As when its sliding it has bent and the axle puck is taking the damage, which is what you want. If you want good quality stuff look up R&G protectors, look up there Cotton reels http://www.rg-racing.com/browseBike/Honda/CBR600RR/2005/CR0001.aspx

ALSO FYI normally known as Swingarm protectors also

Chances are high from this happening in other words, Just my 2c, obviously it depends on the size of them also
