I'll be using this bike as my main commuter, but wont ride it for long trips. i.e. from s.d. to l.a., until i feel more comfortable.

that being said, i park this baby in my garage at home but when im at work it'll be right outside. i'll be able to keep an eye out for the bike every so often but i'd like to have that extra piece of mind.

anyone in the s.d. area know of a good place to get a nice lock? decent brands/types?

i have the kryptonite lock for my bike...nothing bad to say about them....
Except if you want to unlock it faster with a bic pen - look on U-tube - theres a great video about it.

Any security is better than none but this ain't that much bettter as most lowlife thiefs can't write so don't carry pens !...

I use this chain:

with this lock:
Squire SS65CS Stronghold lock

& don't worry about it.

I have a xena disc lock that is okay I suppose, but like already said people will still take it if they want it. It does have an alarm though so if it's close then surely that would scare them off or someone would hear it happening.

I'm so happy for you and your false sense of security. Virtually any lock can be picked if you've got the right skill or knowledge.

Chains, locks, and alarms are all just DETERRENTS. The beefier the deterrent the less likely someone will be to waste their time on it.

Personally, I rock a Scorpio alarm, as well as a disc lock and chain (the last 2 are only used primarily when it's being stored at my apt). I've had 2 theft attempts on my bike in the last year and my alarm scared them away both times. I consider that money well spent.

I totally agree. I just ordered a Scorpio to use in addition to my disc lock. I hope that if I can't stop them, I can at least scare the bejesus out of them enough to run away or at least have an eyewitness or two if I don't catch them myself.

Oh, thats good - I also have an alarm, (now with a pager), HISS (as standard on Euro models) & Smartwater marking on the bike.

I didn't bother mentioning the Datatool Fortress 2 installed in my garage either as you are right if they want it they can get it BUT it won't take them 10 seconds to take it either.

& also I won't bother mentioning that the Utube video guy is picking a €24 ($34) lock http://www.arro.ie/Products/Henry-Squire-39CS-Stronghold-Closed-Shackle-Shed-Garage-Lock-50mm__HSQ39CS.aspx

& not the €150 ($216) lock that I've mentioned i have.

Thats like comparing a Honda CBR600rr against Rossi's Motogp YZR-M1 bike.
They may do the same job but they are in a whole different ballgame.

...and the video of the kryptonite lock you posted is the same as the guy you were quoting?? It's totally irrelevant to the statement I made but thanks for the response anyway. You're a waste of my time... Unsubscribed!
