Can anyone give me some tips on how to remove the Air Duct Covers?

I have read the service manual instructions and just cannot figure out how to do it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Service Manual - Removal

Remove the upper cowl-to-middle cowl pan screw and the two trim clips.

Release the groove of the air duct cover from the pin on the upper cowl and unhook the tabs of the duct cover from the fuel tank cover, then remove the air duct cover.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's the part about unhooking the tabs of the duct cover from the fuel tank cover that I am having trouble. I just can't figure out where the tabs it is talking about are located and how to unhook them.

Thanks for all the help!

i briefly touch on it in my page under the speedo calibrator install and there are some pics.

first you have to remove the top metal screw for the side fairings.

then remove the press on screws on the side fairings. the plastic one right above the toolbox on the right.

next there is a plastic screw on the inside of each cover. you will have to move the bars around to get to them.

next you will want to kind of press down on the part attached to the gas tank and pull it away from the bike. it has two tabs that fit into the tank cover that you have to kind of play with to get them loose.

on the front it is conected to a small tube that should come right out of it's hole once you disconnect the cover from the gas tank.

look at the fifth and sixth pictures on my site under the speedo recalibrator and you will see what i am talking about.

hope this helps.

Lucky,

Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for. The pics are even better than an explaination.

Now I know what the clips look like and have a better idea how to tackle the pieces tomorrow.

In addition to taking these pieces off, I plan on getting my Jardine on as well.

I have found it easier to do this first. The fairing insert has a little more play this way so you can remove it from the tank shell. Just put your fingers in front of the insert and bow it up a little and the tube will come out of the hole it sits in. After removing all of the screws first of course.
