I believe the easiest way would be to take off the front wheel and remove the fork. Can you remove the top triple without removing the entire steering stem anyways?

That's what I was thinking. And I can just bolt it back when I'm done? Nothing has to be alighned or anything after removing it?
as long as you don't loosen the bolts on the bottom triple clamp that hold the forks everything will stay in place.

The easiest way would be to remove the front wheel, and slide the right side fork down. All you have to do is loosen the pincher bolts for the right side fork, and also the clamp for the clipon. Slide the fork down just past the upper clamp, enought to replace the old clipon and replace it with the new one. Slide the fork back up, and make sure that it is aligned with the left side fork. Tighten all bolts, and replace the wheel.

You need a front stand that lifts from the steering stem.

uhh..thats NOT the easiest way, in fact its the slowest most inefficient way. Like others said before, just remove the upper triple and swap out the clipon. No need to remove wheels, forks, ...

+1, I think that IS the easiest way.
Put the front wheel against a wall and in gear for the rear.
I remember the first time I took the triple off, the steering stem slid down a little, I almost pooped my pants.

Thanks, can you tell me what size nut that is in the middle by the Honda logo and on top of the suspension because I'll need to stop at Sears on the way home to get some tools it looks like.

Search for "steering stem nut", you'll get many many hits.

I dont understand what nut you're talking about the shocks?? be more clear. Do you mean forks?

After you remove the steering stem nut, there are two bolts(10 or 12mm I dont remember) that clap onto the fork, you remove those. You don't remove the fork cap(in blue) if thats what you're asking...

Holy crap put some rags in those throttle bodies man! I'd hate to hear someone wadded a motor from a $0.50 screw.

Good call guys... Removing the top triple IS the best way to do it. Did it tonight. Not on the RR but on a friends R1. Same exact thing. Very cool. I told him to sell the R1 and get an RR so he could gain from all the knowledge here. :)
