If the Pakistani ISI paid an American doctor here in the states to do the same thing, do you think he would go to jail? Yes. Yes he would.

This guy was conspiring with the US government against his own country. That's treason. He's lucky he only went to jail. If it happened in the US people would be asking for the death penalty.

It doesn't matter if he was working to fulfill a stated strategic aim of the Paki government; a spy is a spy. Governments tend to frown on that. Best he could hope for is to be expelled from the country.

That is the literal interpretation of the situation and I completely understand what you are saying. There is obviously way way way more to this than what is portrayed on the surface. Mistrust between the US and Pakistan lead to the US operating covertly within Pakistani borders which put their noses out of joint. They have to save face and portray an image of control within their own country.

The reality of this specific outcome is that its stupid and an example of how rules established to govern the masses can backfire if logic is removed from the equation. Plain and simple, someone who assisted in the demise of the worlds most wanted Terrorist should not be jailed.

Yeah but the US hasen't accepted 20 billion since 02 from pakistan to help find terrorist in the US. But the same cant be said about pakistan. They act like they're there to help figbt when they take money every year, but once a bit of progress happens they arrest someone who helped a country you were supposed to be working with to find terrorist.
