So I just bought a 2005 CBR600rr and it goes to 255 f easily without really riding. What could be the issue? I’m new to bikes. Bought it from an independent dealer in the middle of no where Kentucky, it only has 5k miles so it should be 100% fine. It has a rebuilt title which I thought was a little suspect but the salesman said not to worry about it (of course). The rear brake is very stiff to press as well as the front break when ingaged is jerky. What should I do?

Check if you actually have any coolant in the radiator.

You are probably way low. And, just because the expansion tank is full thay does not mean the radiator is. To get to the rad cap you will have to take off a fairing and an intake tube on the right hand side. It's pretty easy though.

Worry about the brakes once you get it running right. 255 is way too hot and is probably not accurate, might just be reading air/steam

Gauge shows coolant temperature. If you have little or no coolant it will be way off, basically reading the air temp (or steam possibly) in your radiator.

255 is way high. Your fan should kick on at about 220. Once the fan is on it should start going down. If not, you have a problem, Houston. Don't run the motor until you have it fixed.

Search OTF there's good radiator threads.

PS brakes are probably jerky/stiff because the pistons are sticky/hung up on grime in the bores........

clean brakes calipers!
