I am thinking about buying a pair and I was wondering if anyone has these frame sliders installed. If you have them on your bike can you post some pics? I want to see how they look on the bike before I follow the great instructions I found on this site and put holes in the fairings.

i have them...but no camera right now! Love the sliders though. keep in mind they are a racing slider so they aren't like some of the other ones. They are mainly to protect the frame not so much the fairings. but they do look pimp!

I installed a set of Sato Sliders on my friend's RR. The bolt that goes where the engine mount bolt goes is somewhat beefy enough to take a crash, but the bolt holding the slider onto the engine mount bolt is pretty thin. It's a stainless steel bolt that screws into the engine mount bolt. The diameter of the slider is only 1-1/2 inches opposed to the thicker competitors. It doesn't look as if it will hold up in a high speed crash. It looks like it might even bend and break off in a parking lot fall. I haven't seen htem in an actual crash though. But in my opinion, you could probably get a better set sliders for that kind of money. I'd hope they do hold up, but the only thing positive I can say about them is that they look cool.

coyote... what kind of wheels are you running in your avatar?

Thanks for the input about the sliders... I was told they work just as well as they look from a friend of mine who had them on his bike and crashed with them on.

I have decided to install them myself... the shop is asking for 200 dollars to put them in. Any pointers?

Dunong,

Those are Marchesini Magnesium Forged 10-Spoke Wheels. They got a good rating in Sport Rider Magazine. :D

Buy a cirle saw for the frame sliders from hardware supply store. It would be best that you bring the sliders with you so you can match the diameter to the circle saw.

You'll need to peel off the foam from the inside of the fairing, use a razor blade to cut-off the section the slider will be going thru.

I used a sharpie marker to pinpoint the mark for the pilot hole you drill to guide the circle saw.

The trick is to make sure the fairings are on striaght when you make the mark lining up the engine mount and the guide hole.

There's a few websites and posts you can find on doing this yourself too.

Good Luck.

Coyote has it right... just like he said AND remember to take the slope of the fairing into account.

Thanks for the links Darkhorse... they will definitely help when I start the project next weekend. :D

One last question for your folks that have already done it... what poundage to I torque the bolts at when I'm finished? Thanks again for everyone's comments.
