Im trying to find out where the signal relay is on an 03.

im sure many have had this prob, and sorry for the repost, but im really really strapped for time. i changed out the lights and theyre steady (with signal engaged). the guy at the shop said to swap out the relay for a heavy duty one from an auto parts. i have the manual, but it doesnt really say the location. i found a realy underneath the intsrument cluster, but thats not it. pls help.

I believe the turn signal relay is inside of the guage cluster. Hopefully once you're inside of it you can replace just the relay, the manual seems to indicate that the whole cluster has to be replaced (which doesn't make sense to me).

It is in the gauge cluster. To check it you have to leave the connector attached but pull the boot out of the way. Take a jumper wire and short the white/green wire to the gray wire on the connector. Turn the bike on and turn the signal on. If the light goes on the relay is faulty. In that case you need to replace the whole board apparently. This is taken from the '03 manual. The relay under the cluster is for the headlights. Here is the pic from the manual.

If the relay is a readily available component at Digikey or Mouser I'm sure any competent tech that's good a soldering could easily replace it. If mine went out that's what I'd do, I'd ask one of the engineering techs at work to swap it out for me.

that sux that you would have to replace the cluster just to fix the signals. Question if the front signals are not conected will this cause the rear not to blink? My CA taillight just stays on

You should be able to replace it, and get a p/n off the old relay and order the part online.. If you have any skills at soldering you could do it.

Yes. You need to install the resistors that came with your CA light to slow the blink rate.

if you put LED's in for signals, your gonna need to wire in a 10 ohm 55 watt resistor in parallel on each side.

as for the relay in the cluster. i'm not using mine, so i'll bring it in to work tomorrow and pull it apart. i'll see if i can get a replacement part from digikey. if so i'll post the part number.
