I had my bike perpendicular parked behind an SUV last night. Driveway entrance behind my bike so no one could park behind me. Also, no one could park in front of the SUV because his front bumper was in line with a "no parking this side" sign that had an arrow pointing in the direction in front of his car - so basically he could not get trapped from the front unless someone illegally parked in front of him.

So I return to my bike about 3 hours later, and it is on its side. Kickstand left about an 18 inch scrape across the ground, so it was obviously hit hard enough to drag the stand while falling. Left front turn signal broken, and some very light cracks in the fairing around where the signal mounts. The right side has some scratches from being hit by the car. The cocksucker didn't even have the decency to leave contact info.

The worst part - my helmet was attached to the left side of the bike, which probably saved some damage to the bike, but the helmet is totally worthless now and I need to get a new one.

Any suggestions on good web sites to shop for new helmets? I'll consider just about anything. My helmet was an HJC.

Very familiar area, right out front my gf's apt. Most people who park in that area are regulars I'm sure, and I think I will recognize the car if I see it again, but I can't be sure. I don't think I would beat his ass, he did no harm to my physical self, but I will damage his vehicle, maybe slash his tires or break some windows.

Ya you could consider me crazy too.

So, it WAS the SUV that did it? Man, I'd wait for his ass to come outside, and confront him about what he did... If he insists that he didn't do it, I'd wait 'til the next day when he was parked there, and F*CK that car UP. I'm talkin', sugar in the tank, windshield busted, key down both sides, tires busted, unscrew his plate and steal it.

Where was that, again? A familiar area? Area that you visit often? I'd wait for the fool to come back, and I'd hunt his ass down and beat his ass... but, i'm crazy, you may not wanna go that route. haha

Good luck with the ass-beatin', man. haha
I'm with him on this. Personally, I would do the same. DON'T take our advice though. It's usally the person retaliating that gets in trouble.

Based on your description, it sounded like the SUV just backed up and kept going wondering what that sound was, then drove off. I'm pretty sure they can't see it in the rear window. Look for paint marks or scratches, take a picture of the area of the marks, then confront the accused vehicle owner.

Go to home dept and get a couple cans of spray foam insulation. It comes with a straw aplicator that fits nicely in car door gaps. That sob will never get his doors open again. And this HAS been tested. Works bitchen. good luck.

That insulation is no fun, got some on my hands before reading "do not contact with skin" that stuff didnt fully come off for more than a month, even after cleaners, chemicals, paint thinner etc.

Or you could do the right thing and fill out a police report, if/when the SUV comes back look for any rubbed off paint on his bumper and see if any of it matches your bike. Take pictures and provide the info to the police/insurance company.
That's good advice. Don't be an ass and get yourself in trouble.

Okay. Take my advise. Seriously.

F*CK THAT CAR UP LIKE NO TOMORROW. And then just walk away and never think about it again.

He cannot prove it was you.

He can't go to the police to report you. The first thing the police will ask... "Why do you think it was him?" and the SUV owner can't say "Because I backed up into his bike, knocked it over, and drove away--that's why he's pissed." It's called Hit and Run. It is a Crime. And it is worse than vandalism.

Give him no reason to suspect it was you except for the fact that he KNOWS he ran over someone's bike here. Without any fingerprints, surveillance videos, or witnesses....the only thinking linking you to him is motive. And if you don't tell him about your bike getting tipped over...the only reason he would know is because he was the one that did it. And because of that, he can't go to the police.

the police probly won't do $hi+, but that would be the "proper" thing to do. personally I'd do what the majority of everyone else suggests-fu*k that $hi+ up!!!!!!!! if i was in your area I'd even come help you destroy that bastard's suv. nate-I like the foam insulation thing, i'ma have to try that!!

nate,   Your one devious SOB!! I used that stuff 1000 times and would have never thought of that. You can also JB weld the door locks so he can't put his key in. Although most SUV 's now come with a FOB it would still be funny as hell to see him try and open the door with his FOB and then try to put his key in and can't!

Now the legal way would be like booRR said. Stake out the parking lot for awhile. Because most likely they will return at soome point. Look for any damage on the vehicles and take pictures if you find anything. Make sure you get the tag number and then go to the police dept, file a hit & run report, and then have them escort you to confron th driver. They will send an accident investigator with you to check out the validity of your claim.

Good luck!

This would be fine if it were a hit and run on another cage. But the problems is bikes are so easy to tip (especially for a 5000 pound SUV) that the badguys car usually wont get a singel nick on it. And if theres no paint swap, there aint sh*t you can do. Most of the time i think the cagers notice thy hit something, get out to check what it was, see the bike on the ground and if there is no damage or paint on there cage they leave, cause they know theres no evidence against them. That is what makes me angry.

Good advice from all, at least entertaining.

I plan on keeping a very close eye on the cars parked in the area. If I can find a car and confirm with absolute certainty it was the car that hit my bike, I plan on getting even - let's leave it at that.

About the bike - I think I am now motivated to strip the orange factory graphics ('00 F4) and have the front fairing and tank painted black to make the bike all black. Perhaps swap the tail for the F4i tail, get a cowl, and swap the rims for polished ones. That eliminates the issue of getting a helmet that really matches, seeing that there are not a ton of good looking orange helmets out there, and if I'm going to drop the money I might as well get a good looking helmet I like. I like the look of the KBC VR-1 as suggested above.

Polish the lip. my first bike (before the RR) was a 2000 f4 and i polished the lip and it looked really nice. Good luck.
