Ok guys i havent seen anything on here about spark plug conditions guide etc.

So im hoping the mechanics on here and the guys that know a lot of such things, folks with issues, want a diagnosis can post a pic on here and you the technician/expert can give a review.

And also I/We can all learn from it so we can then in time be able to tell the issues behind the art of Spark plugs diagnosis.

Also a guide to go by

That is excellent, thanks man!

32,000 miles is when they are supposed to be replaced as per the service manual but I would've expected that to be a reasonably conservative estimate for a bike running within normal a/f limits. I suppose they are also to be checked at 16k as well though, and replaced if neccessary.

Hard to tell from a close up pic cause the flash washes out any colour it has...

A normal plug will have a very thin and dull coating over it that has a slight brown / orange cast to it, the electrode and bridge should not have any pitting however minimal (barley noticeable) curvature or rounding off on the very corner of the electrode is normal after several (~25) thousand miles, this is caused by the metal of the electrode being deposited onto the bridge by the spark and will generally happen at the edges. Any damage or easily noticeable deformation of the electrode or bridge; cracking (sometimes seen as a line of carbon) of the insulator, or heavy deposits on the plug is not normal,

Anything else is not normal and may point to an issue with the engine or fuel if the plugs are relatively new.

kidnplay: IMO what you have there is normal wear, however (and its certainly nothing to be worried about) there appears to be marginally excessive carbon build-up which may either indicate that the plugs should have been replaced (at a guess) around 5-10k miles ago and that your bike has seen a large number of miles under relatively rich conditions - do you normally ride at low rpm (less than 5k) or maybe wait a while to get it dynoed after you started your performance mods?

Your prob dead on about the wear, but i modified (slippon, velocity stack, air filter, PCIII) it 2008, about 3 months later had the dyno. It backfired a bit back then, and as soon as dynoed stopped.

Not exactly something to simply just check on the odd chance.. :)

Sorry about the crappy shots, I will take more in better light later. It looks like normal wear on them, but I don't know crap about reading them. The dealership I bought the bike from said they replaced them before I bought it so they have about 17k miles on them. I just decided to change them while I was doing other stuff to the bike and had it torn down, also to get it back close to the 32k mark as I am currently at 37,646 miles.

Yeah that's why I said I would get better ones later when there is good lighting but figured I would post these just in case anyone saw anything major.

They look ok... very hard to tell anything though... they should have a light brown appearance...

And as far as performance mods go I have none as of yet. I am waiting on an exhaust, PC3, and the money to get it tuned before installing/buying anything.

Number 1 is stuffed, to many deposits.

Number 2 is stuffed worse than number 1... same reason

Number 3 is the best of the lot, but is at the end of its life.

Number 4 is marginally worse than number 3

Number 2 seems to have been running a little rich, and number 1 almost looks like it got to hot at some point...
All in all though they just look like plugs that have had a good life and need replacing, nothing really wrong with them

Much better pics... i would say they look normal depending on their age

#2 does apear to have a bit more carbon build up
