Just got my email this morning. Star Wars The Old Republic will release on Dec 20th, 2011.

Is anyone going to play? We already have a Sith guild setup if you're interested.

IM thinkin Ill get this game. I haven't seen anything about it but come on its star wars!
My beta goes live tomorrow. I'll post up what I think. There really hasn't been an MMO that I haven't tried so my expectations are high.

Since I have been playing this for about 24 hours straight, I though i'd take a break and write up some thoughts.

1) This a not a world of warcraft killer, nor does it even pretend to be, which is a good thing. There are many elements that are similar to WoW such as character leveling, ability training and talent specs but all set in a Star Wars environment.

2) Questing is engaging, with a TON of voice acting. It really made the usual kill this, or gather that type quests much more enjoyable. There were plenty of cut scenes and the interactive dialogue was reminiscent of Mass Effect. Each choice you make has an effect on your dark side or light side meter and how people will interact with you later.

3) I have only played the Sith side so far but have tried both a Sith Warrior and a Bounty Hunter which encompasses both starting zones. Each one had amazing quests and story lines that really throw you right into the story. The only thing I didn't like with the bounty hunter story is that it made it seem like you were the be all, end all of bounty hunter at level 1 and the whole world should just kiss your ass. Not really believable at your first level considering the Sith Warrior story line was all about how big a piece of crap you are and you need to prove yourself.

4) It's a beta, so I expected a lot of issues, but to my surprise there really hasn't been any. I have yet to be dumped, locked up, or glitched out of the game. Bioware has really put together a solid, star wars themed experience worthy of any fans playing time.

I have one more day before this round of testing closes and they are patching the game right now, but I can only hope it gets better!

Last chance to get into the guild for early release is Dec 2nd. This game has been amazing so far and the space battles are spectacular.

coworker has this, says it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. personally don't know if I'm ready to contribute that amount of time again needed for an MMO, but if there was one I would play it would probably be TOR. last one I played was Aion, and that was kinda garbage.

so is it worth the buy or not?

In a word...YES! 3 months later and I am still captivated with this game. It is really like being in a movie. All the quests are voice acted cut scenes and each class has a well put together and varied storyline.

Now that the beta is over, we have a permanent web site setup at:

Kryptic Knights

If you even remotely like MMO's and Star Wars, this is a must play.
